running lean

recently hit 60k miles, got the ses light and says its running leannn.. :/ i have a fujita intake, 5/16th plenum spacer and blitz axle back. any ideas on what it could be? should i take it to the dealer?? help please!!

Sounds like you need a tune. Even When I was n/a with just an Intake, I was running lean. I could be wrong, but I believe that our cars naturally run lean-hence the reason our cars from the factory runs at 80% throttle at WOT.

Regardless, a tune would make more HP out of what you have...and open up the option of running 100% throttle at WOT.

Good luck!

hmm what are the dangers of driving like this? its my only car -__-

if the SES light is on then there is some type of danger. See if your cats are working properly and are not broken and clogging up your exhaust flow. That can cause the car to run leaner. g-adabout is right our cars run lean from the factory already but if it gives you a code then it should be checked out. Very good excuse to get High Flow Cats if you don't wanna spend the $$$ for tune. :)

You need to specify the code. It could be an 02 sensor out of range.

code is p0171. i ran into some trouble this morning.. i did a pedal reset and the light was still on and then i shut off the engine. started again and the vdc and slip lights are on the tach and temp guages dont work.. i got scared so i disconnected the battery for an hour and now none of the lights are on and my recent 14-16 mpg is up to around 20 but its only been around 30 miles since i reset the ecu... it might be the cats since im low and theyve probably been taking some abuse. if hfcs do anything id be really happy lol

Jeff92se 02-26-2010 01:33 PM

I doubt that's the problem. I'd CAREFULLY clean your maf sensor if the code comes back. It's free and easy. Eliminate the easy solutions first before jumping to the expensive ones. Could also be the 02 on that side

ohh nice i didnt even bother to look for a site like this i just read what the code meant in the book my reader came with. ill probably clean the maf when i get home thx!

JDM EXOTICS 02-26-2010 06:04 PM

my guess is a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake system

Get_some35 03-01-2010 04:52 PM

so i cleaned the maf sensor and my mpg improved (from 12mpg) but the ses light came back on and i pulled the same code. how would i find a vacuum leak?

OKStateG35 03-01-2010 05:30 PM

Crappy mileage can mean bad O2 sensor. I had one go bad on my Explorer and my mileage dropped down to about 8 mpg.

Get_some35 03-01-2010 05:56 PM

if it is a bad o2 sensor, should i take it to a dealer?

r1forever80 03-01-2010 10:46 PM

If you have a vacuum leak your idle should be hi. Not sure if thats correct on the g but its been that way on all my other cars. If for some reason its a bad o2 sensor i have some in the marketplace. How many miles do you have on your car?

Get_some35 03-01-2010 11:11 PM

i have 61xxx nukes and my idles exremely low??? its the 2nd line..

Get_some35 03-02-2010 06:24 PM

while looking for leaks i noticed a loud ticking sound. is that normal?? ugh this is making me rip my hair out
