From my understanding, the timing chain in these cars was designed to last the life of the car.
|
i hope.. but im geting that cliky sound :(
|
I'd inspect the chain tensioner before blaming the chain itself.
|
ok i will soon as i knw how to do that lol
|
Timing chain would be the last thing I'd suspect.

yeah i ask my dad he said it might be a pulley
any suggestions how much it wil cost me ? he said it might not cost me too much but its the labor what is going to cost a grip ? |
we cant tell you over the computer how much its gonna cost or what the problem is.
just take it to a few shops and get estimates. A timing chain heardly ever breaks. |
Has anyones timing chain ever even broken?
|
^ never heard of a VQ chain breaking. The VQ30DE in my old Maxima had a rattle/flutter at start-up and worse during cold weather. I knew it was the timing chain tensioner from research on maxima.org and that it was pretty harmless, just the chain rubbing against the plastic guide. Drove it that way from 40K to 250K before it annoyed me enough to get it fixed. Cost about $150 or so in parts (tensioner kit and water pump) and $500 in labor.
My advice, wait until you're 99% sure before paying to replace anything. At least get a cheap mechanic's stethoscope at Harbor Freight and have a listen on the timing chain cover and other pulleys and such (carefully!) with the engine running. |

Funny I just logged on to look for this. My timing belt fried my honda engine. So we are good then. No need to service it at all?
