Extended Warranty - Second Thoughts?

Extended Warranty - Second Thoughts?
Hi everyone -
The dealership tried to sell this to me when my lease expired and I said no. A year later, after replacing a wheel bearing and being told that the rail on the driver's seat was broken ($1K+ to fix), the service advisor suggested I buy the warranty and then get the seat repaired. The cost of the repair will go a long way to covering the cost of the warranty, and then I'm good for the other small but co$tly repairs that look to be inevitable based on this forum.
Any thoughts or experience with this? Is the Infiniti warranty the way to go, or is there an alternative?
Your help would be appreciated!

For the seat, I think that is a common issue. Not sure what yours is doing, but mine only moves forward on one side. A dealer quoted me $950, then I came to the forums, and it turned out to be a $3 gear that needed replacing. I have not gotten around to it, so I cannot say for sure, but that's worth becoming a DIY guy.

Definitly negotiate the price, they are negotiable.
I am a do-it yourself type of person and I bought one with my G just incase. So far im only about $800 in the hole, but ive only owned it for 9 months.
Last spring it paid for an new AC clutch assembly and pulley. The Infiniti dealership was also able to get all the belts replaced as well ($300 job). I was dreading replacing all the belts (67k at the time), but now I dont have to worry...Got new belts, pulley, and clutch assembly all covered.

Extended warranties only seem like a good deal because of the over-inflated, jacked-up prices the dealer gives you.
$1000 to fix a seat rail? Not hardly. You can EASILY pick up a nice set of coupe seats for that, and be upgrading from stock... or, just diy it for around $20... or take it apart and have a shop weld it for still far less than $1000.
Or how about the radio? Yes, it will probably fail sooner or later, but what would you rather do: spend money on an extended warranty, not knowing if you're going to use it or not? Or put that money in a savings account so that if and when your radio does break, you can replace it with something really nice, instead of letting them put in a rebuilt unit that will eventually break again?
I'm really glad I've spent what I have on making the car better, instead of worrying about things that haven't been a problem.

I am less than one year into mine and ive reaped half what it cost me so far. I have two years to get the rest of my money worth.

It really does pay to have a decent set of tools, ramps, jacks, stands, a $120 OBDII scanner on your laptop, and the field service manual. Over the past 10 years, I've saved myself thousands doing work myself on my all my cars and also trouble shooting friends cars. It's also shocking how qualified and trained techs completely lack the ability or desire to trouble shoot. Instead, the replace parts and see what happens.

infinti quoted me $200 for new belts....and then made it sound like they were gonna snap off any day now and insisted it NEEDED to be done ASAP.
$45 later and 45 mins later i did it myself.....30K miles after this ASAP date
Their 4X4 service is funny too. They charge $300 for it or something like that. I did it for $40 in fluids, and a $10 pump. Was so easy, even a cave-man can do it.
I didn't spring for the extended warranty...1 year later everything is good so far (knock on wood)
