Rocking driver's seat

Hi all,

I've been in touch with my Infiniti dealership trying to get my seat rail assembly replaced to fix the rocking seat issue. They have had problems getting the part and yesterday they found out why. They state that the seat rail is in redesign phase and will be released soon. Has anyone else heard this?

Re: Rocking driver's seat

Is your seat actually rocking, or do you just hear a popping noise when you move on the seat? Mine was doing that, and it turns out, there's a piece of plastic under the seat which gets out of place, they fixed it once, but it has to go back again, it's starting to make the sound again.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

I had my car in a few weeks ago for Rocking and popping sound. They ordered new seat rails but they still aren't in. I was told yesterday that they won't have them until atleast Nov 6th. Maybe this is because they are designing new ones. I will let you know if I find anything out.

THanks

One thing I have figured out about the seat noise, is if I raise the seat slightly, the noise would stop, IMO this is just a very minor thing.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

When I had the seat rocking problem the dealer got the rails assembly changed. They had the car in for about 2-3 days. Now it seems to have gone away and its been couple of months. The seat use to move (or you can say rock) when you brake or say you back up and then accelerate froward you will notice it. No noise though!

Re: Rocking driver's seat

I wish it was just the poping noise. The seat actually moves, usually under moderate-hard acceleration and emergency braking. I get a squeak too when going over bumps.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

Oooh mine's just popping, no movement... Where is this piece of plastic?

This weekend I unzipped the back of the passenger seat and added a bunch of foam tape to some electrical connectors and wires etc for the airbag. That stuff was rattling terribly... now it's all peaceful again. Hopefully my driver's side seat only has this misplaced plastic thingy... that'd be neat, hell, I'll just rip it out.

Any extra info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what the piece of plastic is, I just know, that if I elevate the seat slightly, it stops making the noise, and even if I put the seat back down after a bit, it stops for a while, it did stop for a while after the dealer worked on it, I will look again to see if I can see what the piece is when it starts making the sound again.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

I noticed the same thing as well. The popping sound could be the plastic piece that holds seat memories in place on the left hand side (could be the whole piece or could be just the memories piece). If you pull the whole piece of that plastic out towrads you gently, you'll notice that it's really loose and doesn't seem like there is anything holding it place securely. I don't have a garage, otherwise, I would unscrew the plastic pieces around the driver seat to check it out.

My driver seat also has the same rocking problem while driving. Just like everyone else, the dealer replaced the seat rail once long time ago, but the problem came back after 2 months. I didn't want to bring it back to the dearler yet because many of you are still reporting the same problem after the dearler tried to fix it several times w/o success. So, I try to very hard to learn and live with it for now until a better solution from Inifiniti is finalized.

I'm thinking out loud though, if the seat really is rocking while driving, why couldn't I repliate it when I tried to push or pull the seat while the car is parked? Or could it be just the popping sound that I heard or 'feel', is in my head thinking that it actually moves when it's really not.....

Hopefully someone or Infiniti will figure this out....

Re: Rocking driver's seat

The "redesigned" part for the rocking seat issue finally came in. My car is at the shop right now getting it installed. I'll let you know how it turns out. Hopefully this will be it.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

I also got a call from my dealer yesterday and they said the "new" re-designed railing for the driver's seat just came in. The earliest I could get into the dealer with a loaner was the end of November!
I will let everyone know how it works out.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

Well, I picked the car up and the seat is perfect. No more rocking or noise. We shall see how this part lasts throughout the next several months

Re: Rocking driver's seat

Does anyone have the part number of the New Rails? That way when the dealership calls me I can make sure they are the new redesign and not the old ones.

Thanks

Re: Rocking driver's seat

I don't know the number but the parts dept told me they were unaware of a new part being designed, and a change (update) of the old number would indicate a modification. After checking the number, the update was determined and the part ordered. I'm waiting for them to call when the newly designed part is received. I also had mine done before the redesign, and the problem returned. I've been able to recreate the motion and noise by rocking the seat from left to right, going very slightly forward on the right.

Re: Rocking driver's seat

Sorry, I'm not a G35 owner yet, but will be one within 2 weeks
Anyways, does
rocking sound = the seats moving along rails?
and popping sound = parts inside the seats are hanging around?
Is this problem common to all 03 and 04 owners?

I test driven a 05 G35 sedan today, and did not noitce such problem. It seems they have fixed it already.
