OP, don't try to GUESS what's wrong with your car in front of your computer nor ASK others about it either. Instead, go to a local Pepboys, O'Reilly, or Autozone and rent a OBD scanner, and find out exactly which code your G is throwing. When you find out the exact problem, then you can come here and ask what you can do to fix those problems.

Otherwise, go do a lot of search here. You may come up with something useful.

+1

10.5MPG plus check engine light on means something is wrong.

Go get an OBD2 scanner, post up the codes and take it from there.

Are you missing O2 sensors? In other words not installed? If so, that's probably the #1 reason as the car has no idea how to adjust air/fuel.

You either need a custom tune, or get O2 bungs welded into the headers.

If you are gonna mod a fuel injected computer controlled car, these are things than need to be addressed

May just be time for a good old fashion tune up and O2 sensors. My X gets 22-23 regularly...

cody08cofer 06-29-2011 10:31 AM

I changed the spark plugs less than a month ago.

cody08cofer 06-29-2011 10:34 AM

I'm going to take it today and get the codes it is throwing. I'm about to just put everything back to stock except I still want the sound of the catback! I might leave the exhaust on there

Me too. I consistently see 19-20 mpg in 50/50 driving with lots of WOT blasts on entrance ramps with my 03 5AT. My car would be long gone if it were getting 12mpg LOL

Without any sort of tuning on a 04.5+ car that has headers, an exhaust, intake?, etc will often result is some pretty dismal performance. The 03/04 ECUs have the ability to adjust better for intake/exhaust modifications, to an extent, without tuning. The 04.5+ cars with the fancier ECUs and 02 sensors need some help.

What are all your mods? If you have an intake, remove it ASAP. Things will improve with the OEM intake.

OP when your car drives fine with 19-20 MPG, before it started acting up, was the check engine light on, or it came on when you start having problems? If you didn't have check engine light when it runs fine, then most likely your mods are fine. Just get the codes first.

our cars drink gas but 10.5 is terrible for even city.

I guess, but i did tell OP do a full tune up it should help. btw get a good air filter as well.
