Alright 2005 Sedan owners, get down on your knees and tell us what's up with exhaust?

Would someone with a 2005 Sedan please go and check your cars exhaust and note if nething looks different from the 03-04 keeping in mind you know what the 03-04 looks like. If you could and you see soemthign different could you also take pics?

Let's get some info on the new power bump. Granted it's probably alot of ECU tuning??? no??? Knowing that the exhaust sounds more couple like gets me all excited and I've got to know if we can switch something out if possible.

Jake...
I'm wondering the same thing.
I've got a Y-pipe up front & HKS at the back.
But I've still got the suitcase in the middle.

I've been thinking about a coupe midsection, but
if the '05 has a new one then that would be a better way to go.
I'm going to be in for service tomorrow & was planning to check them out.
I'll post it up then, unless someone else has more info.

I got a 2005 as a loner last month. I was so impressed with the sound that I went around
back to check out the exhaust. I thought the tail pipes looked larger, so I pulled my OEM
muffler off the shelf ( I have an HKS muffler ) and placed it under the 2005. I was wrong,
the 2005 muffler looks EXACTLY like the 2003. There is something else different about it!

I had an '05 Sedan loaner the other day. As I was listening very carefully, I didn't notice much difference in exhaust note between a stock '04.5 or earlier and the new '05. I did not look under the car for to see if anything had changed. My '04.5 Sedan with just my Coupe midpipe has much more, deeper growl at lower rpms than the '05. Maybe, maybe, the '05 has a very slightly deeper exhaust sound than the older stock car at lower rpms, but that's it...for sure, it sounds absolutely nothing like the Coupe or FX35/45, and it still sounds exactly the same as before at WOT...it still needs a Z tube! :D

My guess is there is no difference in the '04.5 and the '05. With premium gas and dual electric cooling fans (which differs from the '03) I think the '04.5 has virtually the same HP as the '05. Dunno for sure tho.

The '04.5 5AT stock Sedan still is rated at 260 HP/260 lb./ft Torque, whereas the '05 stock 5AT Sedan is now rated at 280 HP/270 lb/ft. Torque, although it's been said that the additional 20 HP and 10 lb./ft. Torque come from improved engine internals and variable exhaust timing or something like that; nothing is mentioned in the press releases and other official Infiniti data as far as a new exhaust setup (Y pipe, midpipe, cats, muffler, etc.) and ECU/TCU software updates are concerned.

Again, just from my own personal observations, I didn't hear much difference in the '05 exhaust. Although the extra 10 lb./ft. of Torque can be felt (it does seem to pull harder, especially in the low-end), the new car with 280 HP didn't seem any faster, but we will only really know when the car mags and others do some testing. :)

Exhaust pipe sounds great for stock

All,

I just bought a 05 5AT sedan for my wife and she loves it. She was contemplating getting an 04.5 5AT sedan on the showroom floor that was pretty tricked out, but decided against it due to the loud drone sound of the aftermarket exhaust they had put on it. I wll post pics of the underside when I can, but for now this is what I had read on-line at www.infiniti.com

A pressure valve automatically opens the exhaust flow wide at higher rpm to boost high-end power output and gives the G35 the growl of a hot rod. When rpm is reduced, as during idle, the valve adjusts to hush the muffler to nothing more than a soothing hum.

We'll see what they did as time will only tell. Since the 04.5 Coupe has the exact same hp as the 05 sedans. To increase the hp on the sedans it would only make sense they worked with the aspiriation and some computer tuning and bumped up the sedan hp to match the 04.5 coupes. Just my thoughts.

Sirwrenchesalot:

Same variable muffler with "dual action" that came on the 04's, and probably the '03's as well - nothing new there.

FYI.

And again, there was no deeper growl at higher rpm when I drove the '05 5AT loaner...it sounds nothing like a G35 Coupe, FX35/45, or a 350Z. It still needs a Z tube for the higher rpm (and a Coupe midpipe for the low rpm, imo)! :D
