First Gen (03-06) G35 Sedan Tips/Tricks/Facts You May Not Know

Feel free to add things guys. I'll compile tips into the first post to make them easy to find

You can roll your windows down by holding the unlock button on the remote.

Rolling the windows down via remote ^ on a premium package will roll down all 4, but non-premium rolls down only the front two. (quick way to check for premium package if you're shopping Gs)

Holding down the lock and unlock buttons on the remote down for a few seconds will toggle the horn 'chirp' on/off

Windows can be rolled up or down from the outside driver's doorlock keyswitch by turning one notch past lock/unlock.

If your Automatic Transmission only has a cap on the filler tube with no dipstick, you can get a 350Z dipstick and it will work perfectly.

You have a first aid kit hidden in the back seat fold-down center armrest.

If your brake/slip/vdc off lights all come on at the same time while you're applying brakes, odds are you have low brake fluid.

If you shut off the car, get out, lock it via remote, then unlock it without opening any doors or the trunk, it will automatically lock itself back after a few minutes.

Some of the tips/tricks from the 2nd gens apply to the older ones as well

  • The auto-close windows and sunroof will rebound while closing if it finds an obstruction. Not suggesting you test this...

AesonVirus:
You cannot lock your fob in the car if you don't have another one on your person. The car beeps and the lock won't work. (Pushing the button on the door) You'd need to use the manual key to lock your fob in the car.
Also, if the fob is in the trunk and you close the lid, the car will beep and the trunk lid will pop back open.

sredish:
I know there's a little money / credit card clip holder or something hidden above the pass. side visor... took me a couple weeks to find that one.

tg1234:
You can roll the windows up while you shut the engine off. I just realized this a few weeks back. I was rolling the windows up and shut the engine off. As long as you started to roll the windows first and shut the engine off second the windows will roll up. (Note: If you open the driver or passenger door, the power will cut off)

IvoryPearl07G:

and you can lock the glovebox with your key located in the fob.

suby01:
you cant open the trunk while your driving/moving.
(note from NFSP G35: ...or in Drive at all)

earth0:
For G35 with NAV you can search destination by entering Phone Number
no address needed.

popcornten:
While playing CDs, if you have other CDs in the changer you can hold the track up or down buttons on the steering wheel and it will cycle to the next CD.

rpm&my_g35
If you simultaneously hold down the lock and unlock buttons on your I-key for a few seconds it will enable/disable your car beeps/honk when you lock it.
When disabled only the lights flash as usual.

terrycs

I was playing around this morning on the way to work and was wondering if the engine can be shut down in drive while in motion. Well, I pushed the button and nothing. I then thought I'd push it several times and guess what ... the engine shut down while on the move. (edit: 3 pushes are required)

Here's one I had discovered a while back that I tested yesterday just to be sure of:

You can lock your doors by unlocking your doors...

if you have locked your doors and you unlock them from the remote but never open any doors or the trunk, the car locks itself back after a few minutes. (Assumes you didn't mean to unlock it)

Interestingly though, if you're in the car, get out, close the door, and hit unlock on the remote and walk away from it, it starts the countdown and automatically locks after a few minutes, even though you never pressed the lock key on the remote.

On cars that don't have the ikey, if you get out of the car and close the door, the car doesn't know if you left the keys in it or not so it doesn't lock the doors, however... if it gets any signal at all from the remote after you close the door (even an unlock press) then it knows you have the keys with you and, after a few mins, it automatically locks itself.

Secrets! Tips! Sweet!

Great tips! Hey, one time, taking mine through the car wash, it sat running with me standing outside while the guy dried it. Damn thing locked all the doors with it running. Unfortunately, there were people in the wash behind me. Not fun. Luckily the then wife was home and brought a 2nd set of keys.

There's a "secret" compartment under a velcro flap on the side of the rear seat center (pull down) armrest.

^With a first aid kit.... and a tampon :bowrofl:
