Sick of Polishing Headlights. What's a good replacement for the HID Xenons

I am tired of trying to polish the lenses on my headlights. What is a good aftermarket replacement for the HID xenons that came on my 03 sedan? Thanks.

instead of polishing it, you need to wetsand the headlights, and have them clear coated with automotive clear. doing that will leave them like new and protect them

I have done the wetsand a couple of times ..... although I have not done the clear coat. That is an option. I also was curious about getting aftermarket ones that have a black inner housing that work with the HID xenons.

None of the aftermarket lights are designed to have HIDs in them. They are all designed for halogen bulbs. I have also heard the aftermarket lights do not fit 100% perfect, so you might have an issue there.

Can I replace my HID set that came with the car and use one of the other sets?? Is it plug and play? :)

Keep your stock headlights, you'll regret getting rid of them.

Polish them and clearcoat. The clearcoat is the the key. Also, you COULD have a small seal leak on the lens. running a heat gun around and around the headlight outside will help reseal any potential leaks.

Get the new strafe projector headlights and a set of aftermarket hids

You can put hid in a non hid housing, but will produce alot of glare. If you did this, you would most likely need a new aftermarket hid kit to replace your stock kit. You night be able to get bulbs for a H4 housing and attach to your stock ballasts, but I am not 100% sure.

^ You can but there's wiring involved.

got into a pretty major accident hit the highway divider on the drivers side, decided to replace both headlights with these HID ones from ebay. Only problem I've heard so far is that they sometimes fog inside because the glue on the lights is cheap. Im gonna go to home depot and buy some silicone seal and they should fit properly. They came with a HID kit as well. something like this ,can't find the one i bought

Do the lenses pop off?

FlyingLumpia Jan 8, 2012 11:19 PM

What grit did you use to wetsand them?

haha, not quite, i wish...you first have to remove about 4 tiny screws on the backside, then either bake them or use a heat gun to pry them apart.

800 then 1000 so scratches wouldnt appear

I have done it with 1000 and followed up with 3000, then some meguirs Plastix. I might take mine to a body shop and have them wet-sanded and clear coated. Will probably cost me a fortune......
