Car starts then stalls...

Hey guys so its a 2003.5 sedan 6mt, when i start the car when its cold ( as in not warmed up, not cold outside) the car starts right up, the rpms go up just like every other g35, but then the rpms drop down to zero and stalls, then once you start it up a second time its fine and doesnt stall out.

Does anyone know why this could be happening?

mcaron 02-23-2012 03:49 PM

Anyone please?

This happens to my car during the winter. Sometimes it won't start up for a few seconds.

I just give some gas when it starts the first time in the winter and that tends to solve the problem.

Could be TPS (throttle position sensor) related. You could try disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU or doing the TPS reset procedure.

Have you done any work under the hood that could have knocked a cable loose or damaged any sensors? I'm not sure why it doesn't stall the second time.

My friend actually mentioned tryin to reset the TPS I'll give that a shot

Also check your throttle body. It could just need cleaning and the tps reset.

This happens to me but oddly it doesnt happen when i start it from sitting overnoght. It happens after driving it for a few mins after sitting it overnight and then shutting it off and turning it back on it stalls out only once then whrn i start it up again it's fine

I have the exact same issue only when its cold!

I've recently tackled this issue...in my case it was my throttle body, it was filthy, cleaned reset ecu and problem fixed

I think it would be your throttle body, TPS sensor is on the throttle body anyway so just check both make sure the TPS is connected entirely and clean out the throttle body.

Just went through this as well. Cleaned throttle body and replaced MAF and all is well so far...

How do you clean it? I thought the general board consensus a year or two ago was don't touch it.

My car is beginning to idle very low occasionaly, and I would like to fix that.

You could touch the butterfly within the TB but just don't man handle it, and make sure its disconnected, battery first, before doing anything. I used engine degreaser and a rag. Cleaned mine twice now and it still works fine.

So unplug battery, and then unplug TB, correct?

Yes
