03 G35 passenger seat won't recline

Hey everyone Im new to this site and new to forums. I did try looking for similar problems with mine but I couldn't find a thread. I just bought an 03 G35 sedan and the previous owner disconnect the seat wiring; I went ahead and plug them back in. My problem is the seat wont recline; it will incline and now its stuck with the incline at max so now no one can sit on it. :dunno: The seat does move back and forth and will incline but wont recline. If anyone can help me out that would be great! :icon17: If there is a thread please provide the link

I had a similar problem, seat would recline, but not come back up reliably, etc. etc. Turned out to be a problem with the switch, over time the carbon build up on the contact blocked the path and stopped the switch from working.

If this turns out to be your problem, as far as I could tell, your options are:
1) go to the dealer, they will tell you you need to replace the whole seat base for some rediculous amount of money (like >$3k).
2) Some people on some forums talk about being able to order just the switches, for something like $200 and getting just that replaced, but most people say the dealers can't or won't order just the switches.
3) jump the proper contacts on the bottom of the seat to get it to recline to where you want and leave it there for all posterity
4) take apart the switch and clean the contacts yourself and reassemble everything.

I went with #4 to save money, and it worked, but it was a pain.

Am I allowed to link to other forums?

Option 1 is definitely out of the question since I am on a student budget. As far as option 3 and 4 seem more realistic. In terms of option 3, what do you mean "jump the proper contacts on the bottom on the seat" I have no problem with the seat not working for now, if I can fixed it manually so passengers can sit that would be great for now. Yes linking other forums would help a lot :)

I had the same exact problem when I got my car over 2 years ago. You actually CAN order the switches because that is what I did. It didn't cost $200 though. Was a good amount less than that for sure. I did do number 4.

Number 3 I think I know what he's trying to say, but.. if you don't want to spend the time to try to figure out how to fix it or you don't have the money to get someone to do it for you.. then you can always move it manually with that tool. Forgot what it's called. I had to do that for a bit. I suppose you'll just have to leave it in your car whenever you feel the need to change the position.

On the bright side if you leave it at that then you won't have dumb people messing up your seat position whenever there are other people in your drivers seat besides you :)

LOL yesss this is so true :bowrofl:

but I also laugh my *** off when people get in my car and try to move their seat and cant find the switches. They paw the outer parts of the seat where it would be on a normal car and cant find it then suddenly its just appears out of no where right next to them :bowrofl:

Thanks for the help guys! I was driving home from work and i was clicking the switch cause i got frustrated at it, and guess what it started to work! :) 30min later it stopped working haha.. The bright side is that its comfortable to sit in, i think im gonna unzip the back and unplug the switch so it cant be moved haha. Thanks again for the help! cost me zero dollars phew.
