Replacing my Evaporator Core (wondering if there's anything else I should have done)
So I'm going to have my mechanic replace my evaporator core since my car cant hold freon and it seems there's a crack in it. This is obviously a massive pain in the *** job and requires the complete removal of the dash board etc. I just figured I'd ask since it's so labor intensive if there's anything else i should do while he's in there. I appreciate the help. :driving:

Why would that piece be bad? Never heard of that issue with our cars before. Probably something that is actually in the engine bay.

I would guess a bad condenser before I guess a bad evaporator. This is a very labor intensive job and I would be 100% sure that you evaporator core is bad and not something else.
The only thing you can do while in there is replace cabin air filter and maybe put some sound deadening and foam to get rid of buzz and rattles. |

So i thought it was the condenser also because it was replaced a while ago when i hit something with the front of my car. I took it back to the place and they ran some tests on it and found that a tiny amount of freon was actually leaking through the vents as there was no leaks in the lines and it would blow cold air fine after it got charged which seems to indicate the evaporator core got a crack in it. |
Time to replace the POS factory stereo with a double din!! :icon38:

LOL if i could get rid of all the rattles it'd be amazing. Car seriously feels so shitty because the way it rattles when i drive:banghead:

There is tape that has a soft backing for this sort of problem. I've added a few peices here and there, but for 120K miles that my car has...it's pretty damn rattle free.

I just replace the evaporator core; there is no need to remove the complete dash, just the passenger globe box, blower and ECU (few other stuff to get there), of course still not an easy job, but not compare with the complete dash, the evaporator core will slide to the right after you remove all 13 bolts from the evaporator cover.
I will post pics later |

I recently did a teardown of the HVAC system in the G35. You can see in my video where I removed the evaporator core; the cover faces the passenger side. I'm surprised that everything under the dash clears this cover (especially wiring, and the dash brace). I guess it worked out better for you. https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...vac-works.html |
