Headlight Aiming Question- What's yours like?
I have a quick question: I bought new headlights and i'm trying to aim them, but I think the lateral aim on one of them is off.
When your headlights are on and you're facing a wall, does the main part of the beam aim: 1. Straight along a line along the body of the car. If you're looking along the side of the car from the rear wheel, the light beam is pointed straight ahead; 2. It follows the line that's formed by the gap between the hood and the fender. If you look along that line, the main part of the beam is dead ahead. This would be for reflector headlights...not projectors. Thanks in advance! |

With all of the curves on the G's body, I wouldn't use it as a reference point for lateral aim. I'd take a tape measure and measure distance center to center between the headlights when mounted, then park 20-25 feet away and measure the distance between the beam steps on a wall. You'll want to do this in a parking garage or somewhere similar that has lots of right angles. The beam steps are tough to identify on reflectors but you can pick them out based on the intensity of the light.
There's no lateral adjusters on the 05-06 (there may be on the 03-04 per the service manual) so the only lateral adjustment you'll have (and it's not very much) is to move the housing around and tighten down the 4 mounting screws when you reach your target. |
Man these were a pain to get aimed, but after some trial and error (and a replacement headlight since one was defective due to the aim being off) I think I have them aimed correctly.
