Electric seat won't recline!

My '03 G35 has an electric drivers seat. It will tilt forward but won't recline. I accidentally stuck myself in the windshield. I took it to the dealership and they said the switch was bad and it would cost $300 to repair. Does anyone know how to get the seat to recline without actually replacing the switch? My pregnant belly is making it difficult to drive!

Well yes. It would be possible to purchase an aftermarket switch and rewire it, but it would be very difficult to explain and perform without some electrical experience.

Best best is to find a switch used, and ask someone to swap it for you.

03's had an awful design for the seat
I have an 03 and the tilt? On the seat stopped working but it was under warranty last year when i bought it
Another note, your seat can only use seats parts from another 03, you could look online and buy the part on ebay probably or a junkyard, but the install is the easy part, probably would take 1 min to unbolt the 4 bolts on the seat, another 10-15 to "switch the switch" out

I'm late to the thread, here - but I had the same issue and found previous articles that recommended spraying WD40 into the switch, let it sit overnight, and blow out with compressed air the next day. It worked for me :)

Did this really work? Because all my buttons work except the recline button. I'm stuck leaning like a cholo.

my 04 stopped working for a couple weeks, then has been working since. I know your pain lol

I had an issue with the recline AND the forward backward movement of the seat on my 06 sedan. I ended up getting electrical cleaner instead of using WD-40. It's quick drying and won't leave residue.
I tried spraying the top of the switches with the cleaner first, but it wasn't able to get deep enough to really clean out the 6 years worth of gunk built up.

From another thread, I found that on the side of the switch, there are two stickers covering two screw holes. I elevated my seat as far as it would go and gave myself enough room to unscrew the screw closest to the front of the car after puncturing the sticker. After that, I was able to lift up the switches enough to spray up into the electrics and give them a good cleaning.

Things have been working like new since.

I had the same issue with my 04 sedan the seat would not recline so I tried the wd40 with the red spray straw. I put the straw in the crack of the switch and gave it a couple of squrits let it sit for a few seconds then started to mess with it. Now it works like new just wipe of the switch when your done.

Yes sir the plastic gear in the front right seat rail is stripped out. one of two things, you can either replace the whole seat frame assy. or if you search ebay there is a company that sells a replacement gear to fix the issue. Hope this helps

What is the less expensive route? Since you are a tech do you know about what it cost either way? Edit..Found plastic seat track rail gear replacement kit $50.. Is this hard to swap out?

I have never swapped one out because we can only get the entire seat track as a fix. I don't think we can get the gear separately.

W-40 Works!

I was about to spend $150 to replace the switch set for my driver's seat. I came across this forum went to Walmart bought the W-40 and a can of compressed air. Sat in the parking lot and shot the W-40 in all the switches, I played with them for about 10 minutes and they all started working. Needless to say, I had a comfortable ride back home. You saved me money, pain & suffering! Thanks!

Dould you tell me where you found the complete assembly? Looks as though I'm going to have to change. The G's have lots problems with electric seats but precious little info on forums
