Sooo picture says it all. Why is there a battery vent piped into my intake ? :confused2::eek3:

look closer, the hose runs behind the firewall and back to the brake booster to supply vacuum.

Like everyone else said it connects to the brake booster. Just unplug it while your car is running and see what happens.
