Nah, man, there's definitely something wrong with your car (no offense). I would get a compression test done. Sounds like you're getting some blow-by. If your car was in *PERFECT* condition, your wife's car should only beat you by about one car length in perfect conditions. If she's just raping you there's something wrong.

To put it into perspective the 6mt G37 should reach 60 in about 5.4 seconds, while the 2004 G35 6mt coupe reaches it in 5.5 (stats: Car & Driver on both cars). The HP difference is almost irrelevant as the TQ numbers are much more important (both list 270 ft/lbs).

The sedans HP/TQ numbers were almost identical (although some say the sedan was shortchanged), but because it has a more conservative final drive (3.3:1 sedan, 3.5:1 coupe) the 0-60 on the sedan is slower. The G37 should have 3.7:1 final drive and bigger wheels so it should make it about equal to a first gen G35 6spd coupe. The gearing has MUCH more to do with the performance than the .2L of extra engine. TQ is what launches you. That's what you feel. There is no reason you should be THAT much slower in your car, especially with the smaller wheels. Your smaller wheels counter the stouter final drive ratio of the G37.

I'll go down good 'ol "compression, fuel, air" road, now that I know that something is definitely wrong.
A cars length is what I thought the difference would be, according to specs.
But, as we all know, you can't trust claimed figures too much. I wanted to confirm with other fellow g35 drivers their real life experience, I thought mid 7s may be normal for 0-60.

Fact: Car seems to be significantly slower than other comparable 2004 G35 5AT models

Everything else that's been posted does not matter and does not help with the question. Not to sound like a jerk here, but stating you are waiting for delivery of a GT3 and living next to Kim K (I'm sorry) really doesn't solve the problem you are experiencing. In fact it's really information that isnt necessary at all and with the demographics of G35 driver's tending to be mostly younger folks driving 10-year old used cars they can barely afford, does come across as a little elitist. We are here to help, but lets just shorten this up to what information is necessary. Stating you own 20+ vehicles really isn't necessary information. You might as well tell us about your stock portfolio as well while you are at it.

So with that said, lets ONLY talk about the 2004 G35. What sort of maintenance history do you know about on the car? The obvious starting point is to verify and/or perform some routine maintainence. Air filters? Spark plugs? etc? Do you know the condition? Is the MAF dirty? With over 140K miles, anything is possible.
