Projector retrofit on 06 g35 sedan
Good day gents,
After looking at many ways to change the appearance of the stock headlights on my sedan, I do NOT want to get ebay headlights that have the projectors. I instead want to retrofit a projector kit into the current housing. I have read several thread of how to do it but I had the below questions: 1. What size of projector kit would I want to get if I was running OEM HID system currently in the car now out of the low beam housing? 2. What is the maximum size projector kit I would need if I was to run projectors in the fog light housing? 3. I have read that people tend to plati-dip the housing, would that really affect the overall light dispersion once everything is installed? (Factory HID has good lighting as is and would not want for it to be disrupted considerably) 03 G35 Sedan Quad Morimoto Projector Retrofit (Thread https://g35driver.com/forums/media-s...-retrofit.html |
I was thinking about doing a retrofit and wanted to do morimoto mini in lower and morimoto matchbox (smaller than mini) in upper. I figured this would be the least amount of cutting needed.

Slow down, and search around b/c the information is buried here. The MATCHBOX is a TOY projector like the name insists. I would go with a D2S projector at a minimum. You will get just better then OEM quality at that.
Theretrofitsource sells an FX35 projector replica kit that outshines OEM projectors (seen it myself!) at a reasonable cost. Cutting Shrouds is easy, and typically the bigger the projector bowl the better the light (typically). So don't be scared of going a little bigger than you expect :). It's not as hard as you think, most parts "drop in." As for painting the housing, the projector itself is made up of a bulb into a reflector bowl into a lens. The OEM reflector housing therefore has no purpose. So you should have no issue PAINTING it at this point, I would advise against "dipping it" as this is something that you don't want to have to access again. |
The H1 will actually work fine, but no to the matchbox. My recommendation.

Thanks for the heads up. I have never looked into the matchbox too much. Just knew they were available. I have 204k on my g so doubt I will ever do it.

Do you guys know if the Q45 projector would fit into the fog light housing of our headlights (05-06 sedan) without much modification?

"The circumference of the q45 shroud/projector housing is larger than even the 03-04 coupe "headlight holes" . You would have to do some heavy modifying of the bezel if you wanted them to fit. The more viable option would be to make a whole new bezel for it it, somewhat like the guy with the 350z did to retro these" |
How much... Are they stock projectors

I like it

Can you tell me more about those fog lights?

Seems the best way to do a retrofit is swap the position of the high and low beams?
I've got Minimoto projectors with E55 shrouds on my '04 Accord and they blow away the stock HIDs on my G35 so definitely a mod I'm considering. This is the beam pattern from my Accord's retrofits, want something similar in the G35. Attachment 180026 |
Nice retro. And OP, I'm very impressed with your retrofit. Not too flashy or anything. Good work.
