Intelligent key/valet key/metal key

Just purchased 2005 g35x sedan. Have questions regarding starting car in lock position. If the battery in the pod goes dead, can I start the vehicle with either the metal key in the pod or the valet key ? The manual is kind of vague. It appears that if the battery goes dead and the ignition knob is in lock, you can not unlock the steering wheel. If this is true, can the car be left in the off position instead of lock? Need to know in case something goes wrong with pod. Thanks

If I remember correctly the mechanical key can operate the door, ignition and glovebox while the valet key can only operate the door and ignition. If you throw the "bypass" switch in the glovebox and lock it the valet can't get into your glovebox or your trunk.

Pretty easy really. Take the key out of the pod, unlock the drivers door (only door with a key slot) and stick it in the ignition and start the car just like you would if it wasn't an intelligent key model.

Test it out. Leave the pod up in your house and walk out to the car with ONLY the metal key. Try to get in and start it.
