Car has the hiccups?

05 sedan, auto w/ roughly 184k miles.

The best way I can describe this is it’s like my car has the hiccups when stopped at a red light/stop sign or parked. It’s just recently started doing it, not sure why or what could even be causing it. You can feel it vibrate throughout the car when it happens. I’ve recently changed the radiator fan assembly, PCV valve, and one VVT solenoid gasket within the last 500 miles.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you checked the spark plugs and gap? Maybe it's misfiring.

Ugh I hope not, I just had them changed. New plugs don’t even have 1k miles on them.

Sounds like a misfire. Since you recently did the VVT solenoid gasket I would keep that as an area of concern in your mind. When I got the P0021 code, I was only slightly low on oil (not even halfway down the hashed area). I topped it up and it hasn't come back since

I kinda wish my check engine light was on so I could at least have an idea of what it could be. The vibration aren’t heavy, very subtle but just heavy enough to be felt from inside the car.

I would scan it for codes anyway. Just because the CEL light is not lit doesn't mean it might have pending codes. It sucks when you have a faulty coil or VVT solenoid and don't have another car to swap and test them.

Hmm ok, I’ll scan it and start there.

if the idle's dropping when that happens I had that problem and fixed it by cleaning intake MAF and throttle body

Interesting. If I look closely I can see the needle jump down & back a hair, but I wasn’t sure if it was just a normal thing at idle OR if the jump is so subtle because the “hiccups” aren’t strong. That’s how little it moves, you wouldn’t notice the needle move if you aren’t staring at it when the car “hiccups”. I did recently have to remove the MAF/intake tube to make room when replacing my radiator fan.

At its worst I'd idle drop and shudder every 2 seconds. After cleaning the above it only happens occasionally after minutes of idling. If you're on OEM engine mounts might wanna look at those too, they should absorb most vibes from a small idle drop. I feel it because I'm running poly engine/trans mounts.

Listen to the exhaust at the tailpipe, that's the heartbeat of the engine. It should sound perfectly rhythmic and you will year if there is a miss.

This helps eliminate various other sounds you might hear by trying to listen at the engine bay.

Edit: yep, double posted...

Ever figure out why it was hiccuping?

No. The car started having electrical issues not long after this and I sold it.

My wife's G35 starting having a similar issue:
