Never ending issues...
2005 G35 sedan, auto, 184k miles. Just recently replaced the alternator because it went bad (battery & BRAKE light on dash), battery was charged & tested good. Took it for a drive after changing the oil & oil cooler gasket today, and it died on me again on the road. Car stopped accelerating as it did when the alternator was bad, and coasted into a parking lot. The difference this time is there were no warning lights to tell me anything was wrong, and after I parked it and tried to drive off again it wouldn’t accelerate in drive nor reverse. I know the battery is dead now because the car won’t start.
This one really has me confused as to what it could be. Any ideas? |
So the engine starts? But when u put it into drive or reverse it doesnt move??

No, the battery is dead now. But while it was still running earlier, it wouldn’t accelerate. Even after the tow truck driver jump started it, you could put it into drive & reverse and it wouldn’t accelerate.
Sounds transmission related. U got fluid in there? |
Yep, sounds like either it's low on fluid and isn't building pressure / working the torque converter OR maybe the transmission wore out and smoked a clutch pack.

Make sure you set your expectations correctly with the reliability of a car with nearly 200K miles, more than likely you'll have more issues in the future as well.

I’ll check the trans fluid to see how much is in there.
Luckily, I’m not daily driving this car anymore and just trying to get it to a point where I can sell it. Lol |
