Engine Mount replacement
 

Time to replace my engine and transmission mounts and I am curious what brand mounts I should use. 2004 Sedan. Thank you.

Rubber or poly? I have the Z1 Motorsports poly bushings and I like them. You get a little more NVH but not enough to make it uncomfortable to drive.

That's debatable lol, I'd stick with OE for daily driving.

Yeah it really is a matter of preference and there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with using rubber mounts. However this vehicle isn't my DD anymore and it's just a weekend machine, I also don't mind a little clutch chatter from the lightweight SMFW and for some folks that's a big deal breaker too.

I think I would prefer rubber. Texas roads are rough enough. Would rather have minimum NVH.

The engine mount will make zero difference in what you feel from terrible road surface conditions. What you will feel is slight rpm vibration, strongly pronounced if something isn't running correctly.

If you want to keep NVH to a minimum the only bushing I would suggest replacing with poly is the rear diff bushing since there are no good rubber replacement options.

18" wheels provide a LOT more comfort on bad roads than 19" ones do (17's are better yet but don't really look that great on this car). And you will probably want to get a mid-tier strut/shock combination, any of the major name brands have a self-adjusting damper one in the mid tier and it does make quite a difference on crappy roads.

As for which ones to get or where to buy them. Unless you want to shell out $400 for OEM motor/tranny mounts I would look into the Beck Arnley ones on rockauto. They should last for 100k miles which is typically all anyone needs.

Thanks Cleric.Bilstein struts on here currently. I was speaking more from road surface noise. Suspension is new 30k ago. Drivers side mount broke yesterday so I plan to do both and a transmission mount. Beck Arnley it is.

Ohh ROAD NOISE is a tricky one unfortunately, you'll just have to experiment around with different tires. Stay away from UHP tires because they WILL BE LOUD! I have a set of Goodyear Comfortread on my Focus right now and they're really quiet, those newer Focii are really loud on the inside so it makes a big difference.

You might consider pulling the interior and putting down sound deadening mat on the floor of the G35, if I ever have reason to pull up the carpet in mine I will definitely be doing that. It's a little spendy but it can cut down the noise inside the cabin by 75% in some vehicles.

I also got much more road noise when my tires started to feather. Something to think about (worn tires).

Lol. Just replaced the Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2's that were on the car when I bought it last November with BF Goodrich G Force Comp 2's. They are a UHP summer tire. Quiet on black top, noisy on poured concrete. I run Advantage TA on the focus. Pretty happy with them. Just bought a 2004 SVT for $500 to restore. Brought it home today. Needs a timing belt and a clutch to get it driveable. 164k mileage.

Update. Engine mount change on hold. Waiting on 14mm Torque adapter. I was hoping for the best but alas, without the special tool the upper nut isn't happening without pulling the exhaust. $29 from Snap On.

Love the Focus choice. I just joined the FMC team with a 2010 Lincoln MKS Ecoboost in Mint condition. Slapped an Airaid intake, Unleashed Performance tunes through a SCT X4 handheld and one step colder plugs on her. She's now as fast as the GTO I lost last month to flood damage all the while cruising in Lincoln luxury. :biggthumpup:
