05 G35 Cruise Control Light won't turn on

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to figure out why my cruise control switch does not work. The audio steering wheel controls work. The horn works. The left and right turn signal cancel functionality (clockspring) works. The fuse that seems to be associated with cruise control (slot 12, internal box) is good.

I noticed a few months ago I could not set my cruise control but the switch to turn it on and off still worked (caused the dash light to illuminate) . Then all of a sudden, the on and off switch stopped working too. Even though all the above work could it be the clockspring still? I replaced it about two years ago with a OEM one from Nissan. I tried all the petal lift and common tricks and read every existing thread. Any tips would be greatly apricated.

Those lights on the dash are incredibly common to just stop working, my set light sometimes works and sometimes doesn't however it's just a visual indicator and my cruise functions normally.

Does your cruise control work AT ALL, has it ever worked?

It COULD be the clockspring along with a great many other possible things, but knowing if the cruise worked, and when it finally stopped working will help narrow it down a little.

The easiest thing to check is the stop limit switch on the brake and clutch pedal, you can just unplug the switch (make sure the brake switch one isn't the one for the brake lights, the cruise interlock is a separate switch), then use a digital multimeter to see if the switch opens and closes when you press the pedal.

It did work for 17 years! Stopped working a few months ago. Only "work" I did recently in there was the clockspring a while back. But I did notice before the lights went out that the cruise would not set. I will check the switch and report back. Well maybe after this freeze thats about to roll through :). Thanks for the reply!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if that light starts working later when the weather warms up, mine is less likely to work in the cold. Probably expansion/contraction of electronics on the instrument cluster and one of the soldered components is broken.

No such luck for me. For future refrence for others. Of the two brake petal switches (white upper, brown lower) the brown one is the CC switch. It appears to operating well. E.g. breaks circut when petal is pressed and complete circut while brake petal is idle. So what is next? Man if I have to replace the freaking clocksprint again I am going to be pissed. Last time I did it I had to take it to Nissan for them to reset the steering wheel angle sensor. Anything else I can try?

Thanks!

Ok new information. I plugged in the awesome Nissan DataScan II tool and it showed a code that my normal scanner did not. P1564, ASCD SW. So I guess I will begin the tracing procedure to find the fault. Good news is this program can apparently also reset the angle sensor so if I need to take it all apart I don't have to pay the stealership another $150 to press a button.

It was the clockspring. I didn't want to drop another 150 bucks on one so I took this one apart to find the fault. It looks like the ribbon cable got pinched during assembly and it eventually caused he ribbon to fail. I shaved away the plastic coating and soldered some strands of copper wire to restore the connection. Reinstalled and cruise control is back up and running. :) Taking the clockspring apart was fairly easy. Just use some wooden sticks to hold the clips open as you circle around and pry with a screw driver. Once your in there is pretty easy to see where the failure is.

I don't think the NDS2 app for android can reset the steering angle sensor. I think only the full Windows based version can do that but maybe I'm wrong.

correct. The full paid version does it.
