I can't get my lug nuts off lmao
Hey so bare with me, I'm a girl, I never usually work on my own car further than basic upkeep and I need to replace my rear brake pads but I cannot get my lug nuts off!!! LMAO they aren't locking ones either. Every size socket I try doesn't work. They're either too small or too big. And the closest one that seems like it fits right just ends up spinning around when I try to loosen it. Idk what to do! And my brakes got so bad one of the pads fell off and now my car won't go above 20mph! LMAO. It's not funny I know but I need some advice. I'm learning as I go but unfortunately no YouTube mechanic addresses this rookie situation

Did you try the tool kit that came in the car? There's a tire iron in there that will fit the lug nuts. Should be in your trunk. Might be tucked away in a panel on the left side of the trunk with the jack or in a pocket near the spare tire. If your user guide is in your glove box it will tell you where to find the emergency jack and the tire iron/took kit will probably be with it.

Should be a 21mm socket. Go to harbor freight and get a long 1/2" drive, or find a 'cheater bar' to put over the end of your wrench.
Make sure the wheel is on the ground before you try to loosen the nuts with a standard wrench (if you're using an impact driver you can remove the lug nuts with the wheel off the ground). Good luck! |
Go to harbor freight, walmart, or any auto parts store and ask for this tool. It usually costs less than $20. It has different sizes on each end and one of them will fit perfectly.

It sounds like you're probably using SAE sockets, the lug nuts on the G35 are metric. They might also be rounded off from a previous person using the wrong size socket, or deformed from someone overtorqueing them with an air wrench.
Just make sure you use a torque wrench and torque EVERYTHING to factory spec when reinstalling. |
