A couple of Q's re: the MP3 player...
 

1. what min. samplying rate would you recommend?

2. in 'random' mode, does it still select tracks from amongst CD's or does it behaves different?

I use 192 kb VBR WMA, and they sound OK. You probably do not want to go below 128kb MP3, but that is just an opinion.

There is an option for folder random, disc random or all disc random when dealing with MP3/WMA discs.
