Trunk doesn't open

On some occasions my trunk will not open, I try using the Fob, the interior latch and the bumper button and nothing works until I put my key in the ignition and put it in position right before the car actually goes on. What causes this?

dunno, but the exact same thing has happened to me a couple times.

 the trunk wouldn't open at all if the switch was on correct?

If the glove box switch is in the lock position it will not open from the switch on the left of the dash. It will open from the remote, I believe. (Comments are for 04).

Sorry just got back here to answer your question. The inside switch will not work if lockout is on but the remote will still open the trunk as you may have discovered by now.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic, obviously my trunk would not open at all if the switch was on. I guess I was trying to say that was an obvious thing and I checked that first, also that I mentioned this lockout problem is occasional, I am sure the switch is not bouncing around when I am driving. Thanks for tryin though.

Does anyone have any idea or is it just the design of the car?

Sorry I didn't pick up on that. :o
Good luck with getting it diagnosed. I don't think you're the only one with this as a sporadic problem so hopefully someone with a fix will chime in.

just guessing here but the trunk probably has an actuator like the gas door. my gas door actuator went bad so where the door would not open. unplugged it from behind the trunk liner.

Did the dealer replace-fix it?

Do you have the Intellikey? Could the battery in it be weak enought that unless you are very close to one of the antennae it won't be picked up? I don't have that on my 04 so I am not sure of the ins and outs of the system.

Let us know.

when I get a chance to drive up to Chicago sometime I will have it fixed. I told them it was a bad actuator but they said they must diagnose it in order for me to get the part covered under warranty.

Andy77: no intellikey, just regular one

Andy77 May 15, 2005 06:59 PM

I'm mystified-sounds like a job for the dealer. I didn't know all the 05s had a bumper button, I figured that was only with the Intellikey. The 04's don't have the button.

Post your solution, please. (I hope you find one). Good luck.

My 2004 has done that at least 2x (since I got it in Aug 2004). So far, it has been infrequent enough for me to ignor.
Though now that I know other people have this problem I am more inclined to mention it to my dealer next time I am there.
