What's the best way to protect the car under the sun?

Hello all,

I live in an apartment and I do not have a garage yet (still on waiting list, hopefully within a year). I currently parked behind my building and it's for tenants only. It's getting beaten up by the extremely heat here in NY everyday now. I do not really want to use a car cover because no one uses them. Besides there are m3's and mercedes here that doesn't use it. I have the windshield uv protector in front and back to protect the interior but how can I protect the exterior? I can't park on the streets under the trees because I get alot of bird craps all over it. I washed and wax the car today hoping the wax can take some of the dealy uv's. What else can I do?

Thanks!!!

The sun shades do wonders to keep sun out. However, the UV glass Infiniti uses keeps out the UV to help prevent fading inside the car. As far as the paint goes, keep it clean and waxed. Personally, I use MANY coats of Zaino. Also, make sure you remove any bird droppings and such from the paint before the sun bakes it in.

If my ride were outside, I'd definitely be using a car cover...

HeHe, I hope the Zaino will do Colin. I have always kept my vehicles outside. I have considered a garage but I always find someting else to sink my funds into. My vehicles usually look pretty good considering they sit outside in the sun, and snow year round. As a matter of fact a couple of days ago I met the young couple that bought my old 1986 Suburban 4x4 3 years ago and you know what, they said they still get comments on how good it looks :) . I bought that big old truck new and she lived outside all the time and just had a yearly waxing and application of Rust-Check.

I applied the Meguiars Gold Class on today. The instructions said to just apply a thin layer. How long can that last? I thought wax is better keeping the dust off? I waxed it and about 2 hours later it's so dusty on my car already. Black cars is sooooooooo hard to keep clean.

Oh another question for you guys if you don't mind. I installed the jdm clears today. Then I went back into the car and set off the turn signals. The jdm clears does not blink. Is this NORMAL? I never pay attention back then if the amber lights blink. It's close to 100 degrees out there and I don't feel like going back out to put on the ambers and then back to the clears. I am sure you guys know the answer. :D

The jdm's are so easy to snap off...it's not even funny. Someone can take it in a matter of seconds. :D

I would if some others do. It's kinda suspicious and people might wonder what's underneath it you know.

I've heard Crystal Guard works well... I haven't tried in yet, but will eventually... Like others have said: wash and wax regularly!

Here's a link to Crystal Guard: www.crystalguard.com

You've been busy Bobby :) , your clear corners do not blink, they just illuminate when you turn on your headlights or parking lights (the same as your ambers did).

Who cares if no one else uses the car cover. And what if they do think it's something different under the cover. I would feel more protected theft/breakin wise if it was covered. Would look pretty obvious if someone where playin under the cover.

Get yourself a cover fitted for the G35 and USE IT. There's no way my G would ever sit in the sun like that. Not even does my G sit in the sun while I work. I pay extra just to park in parking garage while I'm at work.

Still, if you don't want to use a cover, just make sure you keep wax on it. I would be waxing every other month or so. Also key to it, is to keep your car CLEAN (free from dirt, tree sap, bird sh*t, and all that other stuff. It will RUIN you paint in no time. A friend of mines Maxima was literally ruined when he moved into an apartment.

So, do yourself a favor and protect your "investment" (the G).

Good Luck!

Ok...I'll try to wax it every other month. I am hoping I'll get a garage soon. Hopefully this is the ONLY summer it'll spent outside. Afterward, once I have the garage, it'll always be under the shade. ;)

So I should apply another layer of Meguiars Gold Class when I get a chance? The next time I wash my car, do I need to not scrub it too hard? Or it may strip out the current wax layer? I am a newbie to waxing cars. Sorry.
