i'm a bad driver

hey everyone. i was driving today and i wanted to actually push my car and see what I can do ( 0-60 ). i timed myself a few times and I kept getting 7.0 and higher! i have an 05 6mt sedan. maybe i'm not getting out of the hole right? i'm not sure. i turn vdc off. i rev until 3k, and then i drop the clutch slowly until i take off and then i just go. i chirp second and then switch third. what am i doing wrong? am i supposed to drop the clutch fast? ( just let go of the cutch? ) am i supposed to spin tires while taking off to get more speed? this is my first manual car but im very upset that i can't do this! i would appreciate any tips given :)

What's your elevation and what was the temperature like. Hot days can make the G a dog.

In order to get a good launch you have to not be afraid to beat the crap out of it. She can take it, it's all good. Your 1-2 shift needs to be very aggressive and fast too to get a good time.

Are people pretty happy with the performance/accuracy of the G TECH? I was expecting (though I have no reference) that people would questioning the G TECH...

Fear of driving your car aggressively will hurt your times. The trick to achieving good times is in the launch. Too much wheel spin will hurt traction and not enough throttle will bog the motor.

Good Luck!

This seems to be very true. Are the nissan engine computer very consrvaitve when it comes to hot air? The power of my '05 6mt seems to diminish dramatically once the car gets hot. The coolant temp is fine, but there must be a lot of heatsoak under the hood.

The 'ol butt dyno says power fluctuates too much for my liking!

I second BobbyD, you have to abuse to car. But first, about the G-Tech.

I had a G-Tech before and I found it quite difficult to adjust properly. I pried open the rubber but of the windshield while applying pressure to remove the little bit of air and get a better contact of the 3 supports. Also, make sure you look at it from say 20ft in front (and in the middle) of your car to make sure it is line up properly (you don't want to have it 5° off to a side and that's hard to check from inside the car).

The stretch of road you select has to be flat. I ran multiple runs in both directions to get a feel of the flatness.

That's for the G-Tech. Doogie's got it right, the launch makes or breaks the 0-60 time. Clutch and tires must be slipped, but not too much. The rpm remains just about constant, say at 4000, as I release the clutch and the speed increase. Slip the clutch for 1 to 2 seconds, I don't know. That's all I can say as it hard to explain, it's a feel thing, but the concept is, you don't want to be out of the power band. Try it many times. Not necessarily with the G-Tech, especially when it rains.... VDC off and, 4000rpm launches off any stops or red light and get a feel for the traction and clutch slip.

Let us know what your progress is.

Frank

P.S.: mrdwaters asks about the G-Tech. I do not question the accelerometer, I question to ease of use. It's a one axis system and the axis has to line up with the direction of travel. Other accelerometers use 3 axis systems which compensate for misalignments of the unit relative to the direction of travel.

I love my G-tech.
I can get consistant 5.4-5.6, 0-60 times.
^^^ Its like some of the posters above said "don't be afraid to get on the car and let the tires and clutch slip."
