Motor Trend tests the 05 280 5AT G sedan...it's not faster

While at the airport today, I saw the new Motor Trend with a comparo test of the 05 G35 sedan 5AT, the 06 BMW 330 5at, and A4. The 05 G went 14.7@95.9mph. The quickest G35 sedan they ever tested went 14.6@97.1mph. That was an 03 model. Remember that MT corrects all their times to standard conditions (sea level, 20% humidity, 29.8 baro).

It looks like those of us that thought the 03/04s were actually making closer to 280hp were right.

still love my 05.

It's okay. The rest of the revisions made the wait worthwhile to me.

It's all good.

As for the Motor Trend - I have a subscription and it pisses me off that it's available on the shelf before I get my copy at the house. The last issue I have has the BULLITT rematch on the cover - 05 Mustang GT vs the 06 Dodge Charger.

Very boring story except for the section on the original movie chase..

Yes they did! Besides, it sounds a bit throatier than my '04 too! I've just got over 700 miles on mine, so I haven't really tried it, but the '05 loaner I spent the day driving before I bought did seem to have a bit more kick than my '04.

I still love my car no matter how fast it is
:D

What times did the Bimmer post? I bet the bimmer won right? There is no way that new 330 is faster than a G35. I don't trust any of those car magazines. They are so biased!

GeeWillikers Jul 23, 2005 10:45 PM

DaveB,

I'm not doubting you AT ALL, but are you sure it was Motor Trend magazine? I went mining for information and the only recent comparo I can find is related to Automobile magazine.

Not arguing, just asking!

Oh, and so you think Motor Trend was biased on this story a couple of years ago?

Great read!! I had never read that comparison article in MT. Gave me a really good feeling about choosing my G-sedan over a couple of BMW's that were also in the running for my-next-car position. :D

I want a G45 in 2009. That would rock.

did they add hp and torque or simply revise the numbers? have you looked at the differences between the power bands? heck, the heavier wheels could even be a factor in 1/4 mile ;)

there are many unknowns, it could very well be possible.

I assume you mean 5AT's and not including 6MT's.

No. The extra weight in the 05, plus the under-rated power of the previous model years make the car nearly equal with regard to their performance numbers....
