Need help with upgrading HID's?

I see a lot of people upgrading their HID's. Is the upgrade purely for better looks, or will the upgrade illuminate the road better? I would like to upgade mine as well. I prefer more of a blueish look. What about the high beams? Please point me to the wright direction. Please name the brand and model number, and the cheapest place to order them. What is involved with installing upgraded HID's? Does the fron bumper need to be removed? I have an 05 sedan by the way.

Given the same lumen output, the bluish lights (higher kelvin) will be less bright than the white lights.

Don't be confused by the marketing hype that the higher the kelvin # (8000K) the brighter the bulb. In fact, the opposite is true down to true white, which is around 4500K, I think. Below that the light looks yellow.

Dont't HID's illuminate 100-150 feet further than Halogen's. I would like to get one that illuminates the road further than the stock ones, but one that has more of a blueish look to them like the ones used by Mercedes and BMW.

People around here swap out their stock 4100k for 6000k. This is for looks not for performance!

If you want to see further down the road well just turn on your high beams. I am sure you meant you want your light more distributed on the road, then HID projectors are the only way to go. If not, just stick to what you have now because there is no way you can improve illumination with switching HID bulbs.

By the way, chances are that bluish look you are talking about are coming from the projectors, not the bulbs. Keep in mind all vehicles come with OEM 4100k HID bulbs.

Please tell me the difference between the bulb and projector?

Yup, if you're talking about stock HID's, you're right. Projectors can make a big difference. Example....my Volvo S60R had "bi-xenon" hid's. Most cars only have low beam hid's (including our G's). The high beams come on as regular halogens. Volvo incorporated a motor in the lights that rotates the hid up for high beams (as well as lighting up additional halogens). So, in theory, both low and high beams were hid. Good concept. Very poor execution. The hids in that car suck big time. And the reason is a poorly designed projector. The light output of even older hid designs, such as those in my 03 Altima, has a much better light output than the Volvo's.

Mercedes and BMW HID had blueish because all had projectors.

What is the difference between projectors and the bulb replacement?
