$500 suspension setup
 

Is there a good suspension setup for $500-650? I am selling my old Enkei 18" rims from my Altima to someone for $500, so I figure I am going to do a mod with the money. I am looking to get a shock/spring combo that will increase handling, not ruin the ride and lower it about an inch-inch and a half in front and whatever corresponds to the rear. Coilovers are not necessary.

You can get the Tein H-Tech/Tokico D-Spec combo for $640 through Everything G35. A lot of performance for not a lot of dough.

i know if you look around you might be able to find tein basic coilovers for about $500-700 .

I'd only get that combo if the H-Techs are for the 350Z. The ones for the G35 are sprung too softly.

Too soft? Well I want to keep some ride comfort. I think I may end up going for the Tokicos and S-Techs.

for parts, that setup is around $600 (including shipping if out state, blah, blah). but install can run you another couple hundred.

I am not worried about install, I can get it done cheap or I have access to a lift and tools if I need to do it myself.

You can get the 350Z H-tech's in that combo for the same price (I updated it to show that)

That's a good setup. But so are the Tein Basic's for a little bit more, like someone else recommended. They're a bit stiffer spring wise (503/503 vs 358/375) they offer ride height adjustment, valving it matched to the spring rates/car, and they can be overhauled too.

Well you did say you wanted to increase handling. I see that you have a 6MT, not sure which year and which model, so I'm assuming you have the stock sport suspension on your car.

Either you have 314/342 spring rates or the revised 314/427 spring rates.

The H-Techs for the G35 are 324/263.

The front is fine but look at the horrible rear spring rate. Transfers quite a bit of roll stiffness to the front.

The S-Techs for the G35 aren't much better at 358/274. Transfers even more roll stiffness to the front!

I'd suggest sticking with the 350Z version if you care about performance.

performance, yes - the z version is stiffer, transfers less weight... but... a little more 'punshing' for every day use. i find the h-techs for sedan are quite comfortable. and the spring rate is not an all encompassing figure on control... but it has a lot to do with the relationship with the dampers. this is why coilovers are usually the perfect solution. as far as the s-techs having a lower rate, it is because it is that much lower and has to be compensated that much more to alleviate the stiffness. a soft spring can also help out with traction as well.

i did actually notice a slight increase in understeer, but i picked an adjustable sway bar setup to compensate for this, and i'm loving it. so i get the lower stance (not too low that my camber is way off), a smooth ride, and just enough oversteer that it is still fun to drive. (i'd rather get the quaife lsd)
