Anyone knows what's wrong? engine wont start...

ok so a couple weeks ago my battery was fairly drained so i needed a jump-start to get the car goin. got a new batter and all was well till today. i didnt drive the car for the 2 previous days and it was left parked outside. it's currently around 55 degrees and the car just wont start...doesnt seem like the battery's dead cuz electricals are working. o and i tried depressing the accelerator while starting the engine....nothing. can someone tell me what's goin on? thanks in advance. btw it's an '03 5spd.

is it cranking? is it making any noise or sounds? you need to be more specific.

jack_mack Nov 5, 2005 05:31 AM

it cranked like once or twice but then after that it just kinda clicks. i just got a jumpstart and it seems to be runnin fine now tho.

if it clicks, it's your battery. something is obviously draining it. also it could be your starter, but i doubt it. are u running an aftermarket stereo system?

Something is draining the battery, cuz it's dead again. You should jump start the car let it run for an hour or so to let the battery charge up, or go buy a battery charger. Then track down what is draining the battery.

If the battery keeps draining you should have your alternator checked out

well car is bone stock w/ exception of parking light. i have no idea what could be drainin the battery. all the lights have been off including interior and headlights, so i have no idea what could be draining it.

This thing sort of happened to my 03 5AT sedan also. I didn't drive my car for seven complete days and I couldn't start it. It cranked and the interior lights was so dim and the driver seat moved forward extremely slowly, so I knew it was the battery problem, so I jumpstarted it and everything went okay since then. It happened about a week ago. Seven days shouldn't be enough to drain the battery right? My car is also totally stock except tinting.

Jack,,, it may not be draining except for the usual small things that normally run 24/7 which amounts to a very small amount of current.
If you havent installed or messed with any electrical componants in the last couple weeks then it may be that your battery simply is not charging.
Take the car to a reputable shop and have the charging AND starting systems checked.
A fully charged battery may run your car for a week before running out of juice.
One problem that we use to run into with the older cars is that the starter would draw an excessive amount of current and drain the battery.

Your car should be under warranty. Do not take it anywhere but to the dealer.
Now that you have already replaced the battery and the problem still exists it is obvious there is an electrical fault elsewhere. It could be anything from a short somewhere to bad cables, defective starter, alternator etc. Let them diagnose it.

it could be throttle body too

Something is causing your battery to die, man. It's either low/no output by the alternator, or there's a short circuit in the system that's draining your battery.
After your battery is fully discharged, you should have it recharged b4 putting it back in service, so as not to overload the alternator. (which would be very slow to recharge it anyway).

Have the dealer do a leakdown test to find a possible shortcircuit, and also test the alternator for proper output.
You say your battery is new so it's probably not that.
