Fuel Door won't open

Trying to fill my tank up the other night and my fuel door would not open. I locked and unlocked my doors repeatedly and the fuel door still would not open. Good thing I had a quarter of a tank left.

Since it is still under warranty and I had enough gas, I decided not to mess with it. Took it to the dealer the next morning. I was told it would be a quick fix so they would not give me a loaner. Kinda pissed me off since this was a warranty issue. I waited and to my surprise it only took 45 minutes! The actuator that pulls the pin back stopped working. So they put in a new one. Not sure if they fixed it from inside the door or from inside the trunk. Probably not difficult to do yourself. I was told the actuator is right behind the pin.

Yeah. No loaner unless it's at least 2 hours of labor to fix. Doesn't matter if it's a warranty issue or not.

Yeah, that 2 hour rule really sucks. Especially when I bought my car they told me I could get a loaner for any service...Even just an oil change...

Where can you cite this 2 hour rule?

Each dealer will have their own rules because they are independently owned. The dealer in San Diego will only give you a loaner car if the work is going to take more than 2 hours.

The dealer in Carlsbad will give you a loaner if it is going to be over 1 hour of labor. But they have started charging $10 for gas useage.

Each dealer will vary...

eticket, if you can afford it, try the dealership in mission viejo, they practicaly bend over backwards, if you ever drive by they will wash your car, and as long as you call ahead of time, they will put you up in a loaner.

also if your door won't open and you need gas, if you pull apart some of the interior panels in the trunk there is a bypass line that you can pull to get the lock undone, it only takes a minute or two to get in there, but at least you will be able to get some gas.

Thanks for your reply. I have heard good things about mission viejo, but it is just a bit too far. I do go to Orange County a few times a year. If time allows, I think I just might take your advice!

Yes, I read about accessing the door through the trunk from another thread. Since I still had a quarter tank, I decided to take it to the dealer in Carlsbad. But it is good to know that there is a way to work around this problem. This forum always has some great info. Thanks for your post!:)
