G35 vs I35

I was just why should I get a G35 intsead of an I35? So the G has 5more hp not much difference it power. I get an intake of the 2004 Maxima to make up the power. The I35 is cheaper, it has better interior(most of my girl friend agree) I35 has more class and better looks (again most of my girl friends agree), and the I35 has more luxury. Does the G35 come with that sun shade thing the the I35 has in the back window? The only thing I like about the G35 is its spoiler, doors and rims but other than that is plain and simple . But I would like to know why the G is a better buy? I think the I35 is the better buy here but I would like to be proved wrong. Sorry I seem like a flamer or a c*nt.

g35tina.... we try to not flame on this board so don't worry about offending. You raise valid points about the I35...it all comes down to your preferences, each car has it's own advantages. IMO...

I35
a little more luxury
larger interior
quieter ride, less noise, vibration and harshness
better mpg
does not feel as connected to the road
torque steer with FWD
feels a little like a boat
appears to be a Maxima with different badges (to some)

G35
RWD gives a much different drive, I prefer this setup
sporty interior and exterior
a certain exactness in handling
5 speed auto/ 6 speed manny
manumatic/sportshift
that perforated leather
this board
a smaller exterior
MPG is lower
back seat legroom can be cramped
woodtrim does not look good in this car

It's your preference....good luck!

I like the I35 also. Drove one as a loner. It is more
like a luxury Maxima. More of a luxury car than a sports
sedan.

Re: G35 vs I35

Drive both of them and see what you like better, as they will have much different personalities when driving. The I35, as others have mentioned, is set up with more luxury in mind, while the G is set up with more sportiness. It will really come down to your preference. I believe the current I35 is also based on the previous generation of Maxima, not the 2004s out there now, with a redesign due out later this year.

Re: G35 vs I35

The G35 has a 5spd auto the I35 has a 4spd auto... so even though there is only 5 extra HP it's split up 5 ways instead of 4 which make the G35 much faster... and even more so if you get the 6spd manual. The G35 has better brakes and better handling. The G35 is a sport sedan the I35 is a luxury sedan not even comparable IMOP. If you like the I35 then buy it. If you want to compare luxury front wheel drive you might try checking out the Lexus ES300 or Acural TL (no S).

My choice came down to an IS300 vs the G35 because I was looking for a sport sedan. I didn't even consider a I35.

Re: G35 vs I35

Do you live near a lake? Thinking of doing some fishing? Then definitely get the I35 - it is a BOAT compared to the G35! I had an I35 for a loaner. Floaty, wallowy handling, I nearly got seasick, and I would criticize the styling - IF it had any. I hope you get one as that will mean one less G35 on the road! That solid rear axle makes sure you REALLY feel EVERY bump in the road too.

On the positive side, the driver's seat is more comfortable than the G and the Bose may be slightly better in the I35, I am not sure.

Re: G35 vs I35

I too did consider the I35 before deciding on the G, and have to agree that it all comes down to personal preference. The two cars in the Infiniti product line are inherently targeted at different market segments. I (and many of the G35 owners I know) bought the G because we appreciate its sporty performance that is measured by more than just the raw horsepower, balanced by its overall cool styling and casual luxury. For some the overriding factor to purchasing the G is that it is a fine performance automotive machine first and foremost, and that luxury and creatures comfort are secondary (not that they aren't appreciated).

The I35, however, focuses on a somewhat different marekt segment. While the I is also a fine machine, the marketing geniuses at Infiniti wanted to target it to those who prefer luxury and comfort more than other product attributes, all within a certain value parameter.

So it really comes down to what's really important to YOU as an individual. I can say that, from my personal experience, that feeling you get from having just heel-toed the G out of a corner then rowing through the gears for that long sweeping curve, is the reason so intangible that I am glad that I bought my G35. At that moment, it really doesn't matter to me whether the car has a sunshade in the back window or not...

Re: G35 vs I35

Pretty simple really. Its Motor Trends Car of The Year. It didn't win that for nothing. The I35 never held such honors even when it was new. The G performs almost as well as the best car in class, the BMW 3 series but is quite a bit cheaper which makes it the best in my book. If performance is your priority I would not consider the I35. If luxury, and size is crucial then perhaps the I35 would win out. Plus, because its such a desirable vehicle, the G35 would have a better resale and probably hold its value better over the years.

IMHO.

Re: G35 vs I35

Lots of differences but I beg to differ the G35 Auto is not that much faster if its faster at all in straight line, we all know some 02/03 Maxima are putting down better times than G Sedan auto's check the threads. But again the Max is lighter than the I35.

Re: G35 vs I35

Hi. If you want a nice quiet, smooth car for long trips then get the I35. If you want a good handling sports sedan then get the G35. The two I35 loaners I've driven were very nice cars. In fact, if my wife did not already have her BMW, 2002 325i, then we would have bought probably an I35.

Re: G35 vs I35

Well, I figured I'd put my two cents in...I got this question a lot when I was selling Nissans...If you like Maximas, then the I35 will appeal to you because it's more or less the same vehicle...The G35 is meant to capture the sport sedan market, which means Infiniti is attempting to appeal to the more youthful and/or performance-oriented segment of the auto market...The I35 is meant for the casual segment and as it has already been mentioned is not a sports sedan...It doesn't really matter what any of us say- it's your money and it's down to your preference...Personally, I'd never buy the I35 because I prefer sporty lines, performance, handling, and rear wheel drive...If you aren't a demanding driver or a performance enthusiast then go with the I35...

Re: G35 vs I35

My In-Laws have an I-30, and I had an new I-35 out for the day as a loaner. The I-35 is quieter, but has less road feel than the G35. I loved the sunshade at the back of the car, but hated the glare and reflection off the angled armrest wood trim. I took a quick corner on an off-ramp coming off the freeway like I would have in the G and the torque-steer almost pulled me off the road! Surprised the heck out of me!

The choice is really yours and what your expectations of the car are. Remember however that the I-35 is due to be replaced soon and until the G35 hit the market, Infiniti wasn't really one of the players in this market to be considered by many.

Re: G35 vs I35

For the guy who doesn't think the G35 is much faster than an I35
The I35
Obtained from MT November, 2001
0-60: 7 Transmission: Automatic
1/4 Mile: 15.3
1/4 Speed: 92

The G35 5AT
Obtained from C&D May, 2002
0-60: 6.2 Transmission: Automatic
1/4 Mile: 14.9
1/4 Speed: 96

That's 8 tenths of a second to 60. I remember reading somewhere that 1 second at 60mph = 4 car lengths. So it seems like the G would be 3 car lengths or so ahead of the I which is pretty much getting your doors blown off.

It is true that the new Maximas are just as fast that's because they also have a 5 spd auto.

If you are really into the I35 then get one but like I said before they aren't in the same market segment and aren't really comparable.

Whichever you like more, buy that one. My father thought I35 looks better than G35 also, everyone has his/her own preference.
