What are your RPM's ?
I just bought mine last week, and thought my revs would be lower than they are with the 5 speed. I'm running around 2k rpm at around 45 mph.
This seems really high to me. This is around town driving. I have hardly driven the car, but that is what I've noticed. |
I saw a thread a little while ago about how people think that 3k rpm's around 80mph was way too high. I think the exaust is louder and people just notice the engine rev more. My 3rd gen 3.0 liter v6 camry (3vz-fe) runs at 3k rpm at 80mph also, but its a bit more quite than the G.
I enjoy cars that rev higher. Taking advantage of the rpm range is fun. Some might just get tired of the constant sound on the freeway. My Lexus RX300 has a very zippy 3.0liter v6 also (~220hp, awd) but it doesnt rev nearly as high. It is geared very differently such that I can get around without going much over 2k rpm most of the time. My advice, throw that puppy into manual mode and enjoy it! (pending brake-in of course). |
If you have the RWD, 3K rpm's @ 80 MPH is normal...not sure about 45 MPH. I think if you have the X, it revs higher.

My 3.8L Grand Prix runs at 2K at the same speed. The MT could use another gear or an electric over drive. I think that the mileage would go up by at least 3 mpg. However, you usualy don't have to shift on the freeway. ;) |

i thought it was high too, after an american v8 that was like at 1.5k at that speed, and made better mpg with 100 more torque and 50 more hp
|
what does the 06 coupe AT run at 80mph? 3500rpm?
|
i have 04 AT and 2.8rpm at 80mph.
i just have aam spacer and k&n not sure is it normal ? thanks, Mike |
I confirmed that when my 2003 5AT is doing 80, the tachometer reads just slightly higher than 3000 rpm, maybe 3050.....;)
|
I checked this myself as well and I run at exactly 2900 RPM's @ 80 MPH (slightly lower due to Gordgee's Grounding Gear).
|
I think the G35 is just geared lower for acceleration. The higher cruise revs are normal. When I got my 6mt, I was suprised to see it rev to 3k on normal highway speeds. I would of thought 6th gear would be much deeper for better mpg's.
