How long did the Stock Turanza EL42's last?

How long do these Bridgestone Turanza EL 42's last on our vehicles? (stock size 215/55/17)

Mine lasted about 15,000. Those are the worst tires I have even seen, and they about got me killed several times. I can't believe that Infiniti put that tire on such a powerful rwd vehicle with lsd. Its like putting 195/70/16 on Ferrari f430.

I just got done taking my stockers and replaced them with coupe 19s. I'll assume they are the stock tires (as I don't know who would actually put these on again). They are just about done and I had about 29,000 miles on the car when I took them off

I have 35K on my EL42s and I think I could squeeze another 8-10K out of them. They are getting pretty loud and I plan on replacing them within a month or so, simply because they really suck. BTW, my father's 03 Sienna minivan has the same exact tires except the EL42s are H-rated, not V-rated.

Those tires will last long enough to take you to the garage to replace them! Those stock EL42 tires will get you killed, no doubt. Your safety is worth more than the replacement tires cost. Go with a 235/50/17. I went with the Toyos on my old 03.5 G35 sport sedan and liked them, but the Michelin Pilot A/S is also a great replacement for all season driving. (If you only want one set of wheels and tires rather than (2) sets for the seasons.) I just put Toyo T1-R's on my newer 05 G35 Sedan 245/45/18.
If you like to see the slip light come on then I'd leave the stock ones on, NOT!:eek:

I have another vehicle with 40k on it with the same exact tires, EL42 V rated that came stock from the factory. They look like I can get another 10-15k out of them. The G is a totally different vehicle and was wondering if they may perhaps wear out faster due to the different suspension geometry.

The 235/50/17 tire won't feel to heavy on the vehicle and reduce acceleration and fuel economy?

25000 with plenty of tread remaining.

I've looked at reviews for other replacements, and it seems that there is something wrong with every available option.

My wife has them on her Mitsu Endeavor. She's got 38,000 and they need to be replaced. IMHO on her vehicle they were not that bad.

Mine has 50,400 miles on them.

IMO, the 235/50s create too much bulge. Many of the replacement 215/55R17 have a .7-.8" wider profile and .5" wider contact patch. That's pretty significant and should dramatically improve handling, response, and braking. I'm probably going with Avon M550 A/S ($104/ea).

I think if this car does .9 on the skidpad with 215/55/17's as the mag's did back in 03, the you should not screw up a good thing. There'sa great balance of handling and rolling resistance IMO.

DaveB, why the Avons? Also why did the replacement tires grow as you specify? You are saying the same sidewall tire size then and now have different actual size measurements? That's awesome! I was looking at 225/50's but don't want the gap to grow. I believe the size that come from the factory are the best tires to have on the car.

My Turanza's have 32k and I'm going on a road trip. There are tiny spider cracks in the deep part of the tread. Should I be worried?

When I traded my '04 in for my '05, the Turanza's had almost 19 k on them, and they still had plenty of tread left, not even half worn, I'm guessing at that rate, could have gotten at least 40k out of them. I never found them to be a bad handling tire at all, even in wet weather.

I should have been more clear. The overall section width of the 215/55R17s is basically the same (~8.9"), but the footprint is dramatically different. The Turanzas are the narrowest 215/55R17s on the market. Take note at how drastic the tire's width shrinks as it approaches the tread. At the tread, the EL42 is only about 6.8". The Avon M500 (summer) and Avon M550 (A/S) have a tread width of 7.6". This gives the tire wider and more blocky look and adds a bit more contact patch. I've seen the 215/55R17 M550s and they look a lot meatier than the EL42. I'm going with the Avons because they're cheap and they've got great reviews especially from the BMW crowd. I can't afford $800-1000 for a set of tires every two years. I don't push the car that hard to exploit that marginal increase in traction that a $220 tire might give me.
