Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
Hey guyz,
I am having some issues here. This just occured! I went to chevron and i can't get past the 1/2 mark of my tank! The pump just stops! WHY!!! Someone help me! ANyone have this problem? Everytime it goes about half way, it stops pumping and the clicky thingy goes down and when i try to pump again, it does the same thing. I've tried to take it out and pump it again, but same thing! Someone remedy my situation and give me suggestions! |
Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
Have you tried a different gas station? Sometimes a gas station pump randomly decides to be extra-sensitive (debris built up inside the tubal sensor, etc.). I also went to one gas station where every pump wouldn't work past when I'd filled my car to a certain point... they were simply out of Premium.

Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
Your local gas station just changed their filters....here's the post that I stuck int he West Forum last night:
==== I was pumping gas today when the attendant came up to me and asked if I've ever had probs pumping at Costco. I said, "why yes! The damn pump acts like the tank is full when I get up to 10 gallons or so." He said Costco has been having poblems with only G35's because of our tank / fill pipe design. It supposedly has a severe drop and turn that other cars don't have. and becuase costco changes their pump filters to maintain a steady 10 gallons per minute pump, it causes a back pressure that fools the sensor.. If you have this problem, turn the gas handle 180 degree from the position you normally hold so that the handle is "upside down" this will by-pass the back flow pressure sensor and allow you to pump. However IT WILL OVERFLOW if you do not watch how much you are pumping. Just thought I'd pass along the "fix" for the costco gas pump issue. cheers, ted '03 Sedan 5a: Silver/Graphite, Premium, Aero/Body, Sport, Nav SolarGard Quant. Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
I am going to call Inf Customer affairs this morning (they open at 9am Pacific). In case anyone else wants to call and complain, the number is 800.662.6200. If they don't do anything, I'll drive on over to Gardena and pick up one of their execs and take him to the gas station with me! Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
Is this a "Call Infiniti and grip" situation? What filters exactly are they changing? Fuel or airflow? Either way, that wouldn't cause a problem with our tanks. My SHO had this happen at Costco, but my G hasn't yet... If what he said were truly the case, then simply slowing the fueling process by a notch or two would work to alleviate the problem.

Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
That will not help. It has something to do with the design of the fuel pipe to gas tank. When a fuel is pumped quickly, it stops the pump. Even when you only depress the gas-nozzle a 1/4 or 1/2 it will still stop pumping? Happens when you fill up to the half way point every time.

Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
This most certainly should be a complaint to Infiniti. Why can't they make a gas tank that works properly with all gas pumps?? Everyone else does. This is beyond ridiculous! You should refer Infiniti to this web site. If you do a search, you will see this is a common problem and has been discussed before.
I have had the problem happen on my coupe several times at Costco and the attendant said they see this occur on Nissan vehicles. I have also had it happen at another gas station. Never had this happen with any other car I have ever owned. |
Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
I guess I'm not understanding why, if the flow is slow, there would be back pressure. I know how gas pump works, I detailed it in an ealier post, so I guess I'm not fully understanding how the air sensor would go off without the necessary "stimulus". Anyone? I can draw a diagram of how it works and why it would be screwed up with a fast flow...

Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
When I have had this happen, once it does, it is very difficult to get the gas to pump again at any speed - fast or slow. It's like something in the car or gas pump gets tripped up and the pump just keeps clicking-off.

Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
I've posted to both Infiniti customer affairs and Tustin Infiniti (where I bought it)
It will be interesting to see their responses. I'll post them if they do not cheers, Ted '03 Sedan 5a: Silver/Graphite, Premium, Aero/Body, Sport, Nav SolarGard Quant. Tint 19% r, 28% fr, & just a tad more than 4" of 50% on the windshield :) |

Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
About 8 or 9 years ago when I was living in the South Bay, a bunch of Chevrons got busted for adding water to their gas tanks. I'm pretty sure I'll never have to deal with CostCo on this issue. There were also a number of Mobils (?) or it might have been Chevrons again, that were pumping low octane instead of high octane. We were notified that if we had our receipts, we would have been refunded the difference from mobil. However, i did not have too many receipts after about a year and a half! Re: Help. Can't pump more than 1/2 tank
I have had this problem with my other cars before. I found it helpful that if the nozzle has that rubber gas return boot, slightly move the boot back so that it doesn't fit flush to the filler spout. It will vent the gasses and not make the pump click off
