CD's Getting Stuck in SOW CD Player
Any of you have problems with the CD Player/Recorder in the SOW? Mine plays and records perfectly. However, when I try to eject a disc it sometimes will not come out.
Sometimes the disc is ejected properly, and other times you can hear the unit cycling while it is trying to release the disc. When the disc is stuck, the system thinks there is no disk in the player, so unless you get it out you cannot use the player at all. I sometimes gently insert another disc in the slot until it stops (about 1/3 of the way). Apparently this is enough to release the stuck CD and it comes out immediately. This has become an exercise in futility given that my car is only 2-weeks old. At this point, I am ready to go back to the dealer to find out what they can do or if they can replace the unit. The CDs that are getting stuck, are they burned/home made CDs? I know that with my 03 FX35 the dealer told me that they have seen a number of issues with burned CDs getting stuck in their players and that you should avoid them. With that said I’m currently using burned CDs in both my FX and my 07 G without a problem. However I tend to stay away from using cheaper brand CDs.

I dont think it is so much burned CDs as they are no thicker than normal ones. Its when you put the generic labels on them. They tend to stick up a little bit and get caught up on the way out...
If you burn CDs, just use the Sharpie to label them and you "should" have a lot less trouble. |
Yes you are right, I did not mean to imply that the burning process was the reason that they were getting stuck. But more that aftermarket blank CDs tend to have different thicknesses. Furthermore the cheaper blanks ones tend to have a larger variance in their thickness tolerance that could be the culprit of the CD getting stuck.

only thing that happens is the cd's come out as hot hell. but now watch mine are gonna get stuck

Guys,
This is occurring with prerecorded commercial CD's. I haven't even tried CD copies that I have burned myself. Also, I have some dual disc CD's (DVD-A on one side, and CD on the other) that are thicker than the normal commercial CD. But with this issue, I don't want to even try these in the CD Player. I also notice that the CD's come out warm to the touch. Must be the way the system is designed. |
in that case.... no idea!
I havent even loaded a CD in mine, I have all my music on my Zen and am forever thankful for stock Aux. inputs!!! :D |
I've been using CD-R's to record and I haven't had any problems. I'm using Memorex.

CD-Rs here too (TDK). No problem.
No labels either... just my trusty Sharpie. Might get the dealer to have a look if it's happening with commercial CDs. Doesn't sound normal. Maybe your 5 year old kid put peanut butter in it?? |

LOL.
I'd say let the dealer look at it... your problem is obviously not normal. |
Dealer to Swap Out my Audio Unit
As a result of my problem with CD's getting stuck in the SOW Unit, the dealer is going to replace it. What is strange, is that when I called to make the appointment for them to look at it, the person on the phone immediately told me that they would just order a new audio unit, so it will be in stock when I come in for service. This sounds to me like this is a known (but unpublished) issue. But at least they are going to replace it.
Be that as it may, there are some pieces of information you guy's should be aware of in the event you have similar problems:
I will let everyone know how it goes, as I am taking it in this coming Saturday. Regards, |
Perhaps the dealer was quick to replace it because of hte way you asked...
Did you ask like "I have this problem with the CD player that it get's stuck..." or did you ask like " WTF, THE @#$% CD IS STUCK IN THE @#$% PLAYER @#$%ING THING JAMS ALL THE TIME, I WANT A @#$%ING SOLUTION NOW!" Depending on who I get at my dealer, usually depends on how I'm going to respond. |

Depending on who I get at my dealer, usually depends on how I'm going to respond. I have learned over the years that if you treat the people at the dealer with respect, they will treat you well in return. Contrarily, if you are too aggressive they will tend to ignore you and try to brush you off. So to answer you inquiry, I took the nice approach. And I can tell you they have been "bending over backwards" to make sure I am satisfied. Regards, |
