Lets here it for this car's BRAKES and handling
I rounded a corner this morning on my way to work going 55 or so on the parkway and literally ran into a complete and total fog bank. Perfect visibility to almost zero in a few seconds with no warning. In the millisecond I am processing this and slowing down out of nowhere theres a car 45* sideways in my lane seemingly right on my hood. Guardrail to one side, truck to my left, nowhere to accelerate to. Foot down, brakes on, one maybe two seconds of ABS and the car is stopped. Straight line, no shift, no shimmy, no drift, no nothing - just 55 to stopped like that. I had one of those "holy sh**" moments like the Jetta commercials at how fast the car stopped. Then I quickly pulled up and to the side so I didn't get hit myself. Maybe the 3rd time in 18 years of driving I can remember actually applying the brakes that hard and its never been in a car that handled like this did.
IMO one of the most underrated parts of the car. For all the talk we do about 0-60 times and what mag timed who at what speed and who's 1/4 trap is what - the brakes and this cars handling saved my *** this morning. |
Agreed, the brakes on the G are incredible! Glad to hear you are alright and avoided an accident.
|
Plus one on that man. Even in my 03 coupe the brakes have saved my *** a couple times. We complain about how fast they wear down and what not, but is a couple hundred dollars worth saving an accident? Hell yes it is.

I'm just reading now about all the different "systems" that work with the ABS. I mean, how many of us really ask much beyond "Does the car have ABS" when buying a car? I know I sure don't. Hey what kind of stereo does it have, whats the engine HP, does it come with a sunroof, whats the mileage etc etc.
You're spot on about the pads though its absolutely worth it. I ended up going to ceramic pads in my Z because of how fast I wore them down (yeah I guess thats different than how fast they wear down) will anyone be doing that on the G? |
Yep, glad to hear that you you're safe and that the G perform admirably.
|
Hahhahaha, that fog was a BITCH wasn't it!! I was on 50 towards Chantilly coming from my home in Fairfax this orning and it was exactly like you said. Perfect to almost zero visibility in no time flat.
|
It really was something else, usually you can see something coming or get some warning. I was on 7100 coming from Springfield to the Westfields/Chantilly area.

Good to know, thanks. I've only been driving this route for a couple months.
|
Nice! Glad your are ok. :)

I think it was in the Motor Trend 10 best trials where the G was ranked #1 against ALL other cars in braking... seems like it even beat a few sports cars.

The Service Manual says there are two brake versions available, 1 piston and 2 piston. Unless I missed something, which one goes into which model?
Are the 2 pistons actually the non-Brembo Z brake assemblies? Does anyone see any advantage to after market calipers and rotors? I have a feeling the current system works perfectly as well for normal street use. |
Good thing you're safe! This was probably the last thing on your mind right after getting into a near-accident, but were you able to test the fog lights?Just wondering, since I haven't yet been in a very "foggy" situation with my G, and playing with the fog lights in my garage doesn't show me much.
