What's with all the steam???

So, today marks the first day while driving the G in the rain.
Not a little shower, but fullout RAIN!

I get to work, back into my spot in the garage, look up and my car looks like I blew a coolant line.
TONS of steam.
Now, note... I hit no puddles while driving into the garage.

Temp gauge looks correct, so I shut the car off, pop the hood and check things out.
Steam smeels clean, not smell of coolant or anti-freeze, nothing leaking.

I took the car home tonight, and nothing, no steam.

Does the front of the radiator section get so damn hot that it steams like that every time we drive it in the rain?

Anyone else seen this? :confused2:

Mine was doing it when I arrived on posession day and the salesman said they all do it after the first start. Haven't seen it since though. Whatever, the reason is likely the same.

Weird... this isn't my first start though.
I'm now sitting at about 600 miles... but again, this was my first time in the rain.

Now my poor G needs a bath and a little carressing.

its normal... mine was still doing it at 3k. something about rain makes it steam...:D

What was the humidity level outside? temps? etc. Those can be factored in. if it was around 50 degrees and super humid, in combination with a hot engine bay, you can expect steam.

Very good thought.
It was very wet and rainy, but the temp was low...high 30's-low40's

That would definitely add to the steam affect.

Somebody's using a braincell this morning, and it ain't me!

LOL. Nah, it's just that I've seen that numerous times in the past with different cars. There is a similar effect with the road asphalt. If the temps are around 60f and it rains heavily with humidity close to 100%, you'll see the road itself steaming too as the cold rain cools the warmer-more humid asphalt. :D

Mine does it all the time... front around the grille, underneath the car, all over the place.

In the cooler nights before I would stop for gas at night and it would look like the headlights were on fire for about 5-10 seconds. Actually looks pretty cool... :)

This happened to me as well. During the night I picked mine up from the dealership it was raining really hard. When I got home, I noticed that it was steaming from the engine bay, which freaked me out. I thought it was another coolant leak or cracked radiator like my bimmer, but it was just steam. I guess that powerful engine cranks enough heat to steam up that rain water :) It's just doing work that the sun does and putting rain water back into the atmosphere. Therefore, the G35 is also good for the environment. LOL

And if you put a towel over your head, it offers a damn good facial as well. :icon17:

I'm just past 4500 miles on my G since Dec. 1 delivery and I've also noticed the steam coming from the grill on multiple rainy occasions. The most recent time was during the noreaster a few weeks ago.
