can't control the car smoothly
 

I went for a 3rd test drive today, and it's almost impossible to accelerate smoothly.

Light pedal = lurches forward with a kick. It's 0 to 15 in 0.0001 seconds.
I can't get that goldilocks 'just right' feel.

comparing to a 300 hp bmw, the bmw acclerates smoothly.


I'm 100% positive i'm smoothly depressing the gas pedal.

It's kind of frustrating, and the kick feels unrefined and rough.
I want to love this car...... and this is the only thing that's bugging me.


Did you guys feel the same? Does it take time to master the gas pedal?


Also, light gas pedal makes the rpm shoot above 4000 rpm, which is not good for break-in.

I'm with you on this. Having driven a little under 700 miles so far, I am pretty much used to it, and have been able to smooth it out. For some reason, my wife didn't experience the problem when she drove my car, so it may be a "lead foot" situation. As far as making the rpms shoot over 4000, I wouldn't say it goes that far even in worst case scenario.

I agree initially difficult to control smoothly, but after a few hundred miles much easier. I am not sure if it is me, the adaptive trans or both.

I think somebody said it has something to do with the way the pedal is hinged. He recommended placing the ball of your foot to the base of the pedal, which I found works really well...

But it takes some getting used to, and I prefer my old way of placing the ball of my foot some distance from the pedal, between the brake and gas pedals. In any case, even with my old foot placement, I've gotten used to it and am able to accelerate smoothly.... although every now and then I still have those lurching starts. Maybe I should start getting used to the new way, because it does provide great control over the accelerator.

yeah, i read about the foot-to-base method. But I imagined it would be straining on your ankle to keep the foot flexed like that.

i'll have to go back for a 4th test drive and try that.

I noticed the accelerator became much less sensative after the 1200 mile break-in period. This was also about the time that my mileage went up. It almost seemed like there was a program to run rich durring the first 1200 miles.

I think you situation is normal for most people. It takes a while to get used to the G.

Ya, same here. When I test drove it, I kept jerking it every time I pressed it. You will get used to it though and smooth it out. I thought it was a plus because its shows it acceleration power from stop.

The G is drive by wire, there is no mechanical link between the engine and the gas pedal. Your input is read my the computer and it determines how much gas to give based on a number of variables including how quickly you pressed the pedal down and how aggressively you have driven the car in the past.

+1 - I had an advantage because my Nissan had "throttle-by-wire", so had to get used to it then. Same feel, it just takes some getting used to.

takes some time... its a floor mounted pedal and its touchy!! As someone else mentioned try to not drive with your toe. Move the seat an extra inch or so up towards the wheel and plant your heel on the mat and drive with a nice vertical foot up the pedal. It has made it much much smoother for me while accelerating.

I've tried that several times myself and I found it awkward to move from the accelerator to the brake pedal when I'm trying only to apply light pressure to the brakes.

agreed. it's the DBW tuning. the simultaneously good and frustrating thing is, it's totally tuneable since we have DBW.

i say we petition infiniti to come out with a fix! it's easy enough for them to do....

I'd have to agree - I know that my 328is was smooth as hell and would lock (no roll back) when in stop and go traffic up hill (san francisco). The G is much harder to control but takes some time to get used to. I love the acceleration and found that I use downshift a lot when I need to hold the revs a little bit longer.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It takes some getting used to as well, when going to the brake you will sometimes need to reposition your heel b/c the brake seems to be situated slightly closer to the drivers seat than the accelerator... Did you feel like you were able to accelerate smoother with your foot in a more vertical position? It should help since its a floor mounted pedal, the pivot point is at the floor, so a small move at the bottom of the pedal (using your toe) would cause a faster acceleration than a small move at the top of the pedal (vertical foot).

Now, HOW do we move the brake pedal back even with the accelerator?!?! haha
