After Market Audio System or Eventual Dealer's System Upgrade?

So I'm picking up my new '07 G35 Sport Sedan with Nav/Premium/Tech packages, and it seems that Infiniti has thought of all the audio connections possible, except royally botched the user interface.

From what I've read from the manuals and the site, these are the problems I've seen:

- No iPod connectivity screen (after-market addon though https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v36-2007-08/127720-holy-grail-complete-ipod-integration.html)
I am under the impression that you can still hook up your iPod to your audio system through the AV component cables and then just control your music with your iPod, but using the steering wheel controls and on deck controls would be much cleaner.

- Hard Drive won't record from .mp3 files on either a CD or CF card. That's just childish.
Did they just do that to shut up the RIAA or something?

From what I can tell from the test drives and manuals, the audio program seems really weak and reminds me of old media players from back in the day.

I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to get my music library into my car.
6 CDs @ 700MB each = 4.2 GB
2GB CF card (512 song limit can suck it too) = 2 GB
9.3 GB internal HD = 9.3 GB
= 15.5 GB

+ You can then hook up your iPod (10-60 GB) for all the stuff that isn't in there (15 gb should be more than enough for the music anyone routinely listens to.) And you can always keep extra CDs and CF cards around.

Then you have to remember where the devil all your songs are (unless the music system can sort through all mediums? I have yet to put it to my tests.)

Does anyone know of any after-market programs that have been developed that fix these problems or if Infiniti plans on releasing firmware upgrades in the future?

It really isn't the end of the world, but then could have at least cleaned this up a little. I'll prolly just end up listening to XM most of the time anyways. Love everything else about the car

Wow, you REALLY need that much space?

And do you listen to every song?

For me, I'd be happy with just the HD...

Oh, and your 6disc cd changer does not read mp3's so you can't calculate the cd's space like that. You could probably hold average of 15 songs on 1 CD. Sorry to shatter your dreams.

I don't NEED the space, I've gotten by just fine without it. I was kind of looking forward to having my entire library with me in my car after I heard about the HD, but it seems like a huge hassle.

I just like having my entire library with me cuz when I get a song stuck in my head I wanna hear it.

I know what you mean though... :o

I guess you should just take the time to do it and be good for a long time.

Why don't you try organizing genres of music by the source?

Like... if you listen to a lot of rock, you can use the HD to keep all of your rock. If you listen to an okay amount of rap, use the CD's... or the CF cards, etc.:dunno:

Yeah, I'm trying to decide if buying, burning, and recording 50-100 CD-Rs is going to be worth it or if I should just buy 2-3 CFs and just switch those out.

You forgot one of the more annoying features IMO...

When you browse the CF card or HD, the song changes as you pass over it, instead of having you push enter (a la iPod). Pretty sad that you can't search through your music while listening to a song.

Sure it does (at least the in dash does). Just record it as a data file and the stereo can read them.

Completely agree. Overall the car is fantastic, but the audio UI is really lackluster, almost looks like they threw it together at the last minute....

i'm just thankful there is a HD. sure there could be lots of improvements, but considering this is one of the better HD out there, i have no complaints. btw, i suspect the reason that you cannot record mp3 to the HD is potential intellectual property liability issues.

You don't have the navigation package and neither do I.

Only the non-navigation with the in-dash 6 disc CD changer will read MP3.
My understanding is that the ones who has the navigation system can only read 1 MP3 in dash and 6 other regular discs in the trunk. :dunno:

That is correct...

That's like saying you should sell guns but no bullets just 'cuz you might kill someone.
