california g35s won't last in winter weather?
 

I bought my g35s in san diego, california where it never snows and plan on moving to denver colorado. My friend told me that my car will corrode from all the salt sprayed on the snow because there isn't a salt resistant coating on the chasis. He told me to repurchase a car in denver cause they come standard with it there. Is this true?

That sounds like a load of crap to me. Dealerships offer undercoating, but as far as I know that is just a scam to increase profit.

Well It is partially true, the salt will corrode your car. Go get it ziebarted if it would make you feel better, buying a new car would be out of the question. ;)

Move out to the East Coast... it's salt and sand on the roads... :)

Seriously though... I don't think you need to worry about it. Just make sure after you drive in the crap you don't let it sit on the paint for too long. Car washing in the cold sucks, but it is what it is. And every now and then take it to the hand wash and have them spray the undercarriage to get the crap out.

After living in Detroit for 30 years, you dont need to worry about it.. For your car to rust it will take a decent amount of time. During the winter when it's too cold to wash your own car take it to a touchless car wash and get it sprayed off.

Its really nothing to be concerned about. The summer tires in snow on the other hand, definitely get a set of winter tires on crappy rims. :drivingskid:

Complete utter bs. Yes, you can purchase a car with this protection... But if you read the corrosion warranty, most manufacturers void your corrosion warranty if you spray any type of sealer on the underbody, because it plugs up drain holes. This is one of the reasons why people view the "dealer added underbody protection" as pure profit for the dealer.

In fact, if you read your corrosion warranty, you will also find that if your spoiler was installed by the dealer, as opposed to the factory, the corrosion warranty on your decklid is void.

That may make you rest at ease, but that actually isn't doing anything for your car. Car washes recycle their water. The water may be "clean", but it still has loads of salt dissolved in it, because unless they run it through reverse-osmosis, they aren't removing any of the dissolved substances, just particulate matter. I've never heard of a car wash using purified water.

Well at least it gets the chunks that manage to stay there while it's cold... I'd much rather have that sprayed off with salty recycled water than let it sit there because it's 20° for the next 3 weeks... :)

I agree, that's BS. They are not making Cali cars differently than Colo cars. If they are I'd be shocked. Yes, EPA standards may be different but even there, I moved from Kansas City to San Diego with a Kansas Jeep and it passed California emission with no issues at all. Besides, California has salt water, and snow too. I skied more in California than Colorado. California cars are generally consider the better cars to buy when buying vintage. That's not because the corrosion protection is better or worse, it's because they have better weather, generally speaking. If your California car rusts in Colorado use your warranty.
