Dealer didn't replace oil cap
 

Well..I took my car to the dealer Saturday to get my oil changed and the technicians didn't replace my oil cap. I just happen to lift my enging up today, which I hardly ever do, and I noticed it. Oil had splattered on the engine cover. Luckily the cap was still under the hood. This is some great service for a $49 oil change. :icon43:

It could be worse, if you were driving a Lamborghini you'd have spent half an hour reading the manual trying to figure out where to put the oil cap then given up and called for a tow.

On a more serious note, I'd expect them to be a bit more careful for $50.

i went to peach tire in byron, ga and they did the same thing. i called to complain about the tech doing that, the owner wanted me to come back so they could clean up and i told him to screw himself and that a bunch of worthless techs who couldn't even put an oil cap back on aren't going to touch my car.

That's why I do my own. In my experience most stealerships would F up the Lord's Prayer if they could get a wrench on it...

Infiniti only charges $49 for an oil change? Nice! Audi charged $100.(needless to say I didnt get it changed at the dealer very often...lol).

What would have happened if the motor blew from all the oil coming out? They probably would have tried to blame you.

Imagine what they screw up in areas you can't easily check...

do it yourself.. it's the only way to know it's done right..

... and you just ask for the cap back? not even ask for next free oil change? :)

You know if I owned a auto mechanic shop I would have a senior tech look over the mechanics work, that way for sure they know they will not fu() stuff up. I guess I'm used to it because I work on Aircraft. But if all the auto shops do this I bet you alot of stuff would be better.:)

Fluid checks are simple and straightforward. The owners' manual for most cars have instructions that shows how to do so. Vehicles are the second biggest investment in a person's life. If people would invest as much time reading their owners manual as they do trying to get the cheapest service for it, there wouldn't be as nearly as many stories about "headlight blinker fluid".:7:

That's not true. The oil pressure is not affected by an open system. The EGR system might not work properly, but that is not going to damage anything.

Whenever the dealer does ANYTHING under the hood, I ALWAYS open it and do a look-around BEFORE driving off. Also look under the car if it's been parked in a pick-up area to look for messes and do the same look-under after the car has been parked for awhile at home.

This easy process saves grief and aggravation. I even follow the SAME process after I work on the car. It takes very little time to "make sure."

So I wrote the service advisor an email a few days ago letting him know about it and he never wrote back... some more great service! I'll call tomorrow just to see what he says. Maybe i'll get a free oil change and an engine detail..since the oil splatterred. Then they can find some other way to F up my car! :driving:
