Put your ear near the area where the seat belt comes out of the deck, and tap lightly on the deck itself.
You'll hear the springs vibrate kind of like one of those doorstop springs that you have in your house.
I've had them apart, and in for warranty work. The loaner car made the same noise, and they couldn't fix it on my car. Its just a cheap loose fitting spring floating around in there.

Next time when you take it a part. Snap a picture. Might be possible to fix it. Have you tried to pull some soft plastic on it? There is always a possible fix. Maybe not a best looking one but if it is not visible who cares.

Hey all...new to the site.

Man...these rattles seem to be common!

Anyways...Ive got a metallic/buzzy type rattle in the steering collumn thats mainly heard going over rough pavement and bumps. It sure sounds related to the tilt/telescope motor. Anyone else have this one? Been to the dealer once, couldnt reproduce. Thanks!

Back up to top, because I need to get this fixed.
I got a letter from Inf about my warranty experience, and was asked to contact them if I had any problems. I was also told that I would be sent a survey from JD powers and Inf.
I wrote them via email about my disapointment with the rattling, and was then contaced via phone by the service manager who seemed to be concerned.

I need you all to tap on your rear deck lightly and see if there is a buzzing rattle. I tap to the front/right of the subwoofer, and the buzzing noise lasts for 1/2 second after the tap. When driving over a rougher road I can hear this noise, it is very faint but once my ears pick up on it, I hear it constantly. The loaner car I had made the same noise, so this tells me that I'm not dealing with an isolated rattle, rather a poor quality seat belt mechanism.
I will pull the trunk liner and snap some pics of the seat belt spring.

Mine does have a buzzing noise if I tap the rear deck around the sub, though I can't say I've ever noticed the noise when driving.

man i have this rattle and it is annoying. the dealer has been able to reproduce it while on a test drive with me and they are still unable to fix it. i think i read in a post that one dealer couldnt seem to fix this problem so they had to replace the whole steering unit that moves up and down. in my car it rattles on smooth pavement rough pavement and just at idle.

That was me - they actually just replaced the "hood" over the steering column and it didn't make any difference. We'll see what they do next time I take it in.

Also have the same problem. I will take it in to see if they can do anything. It is strange as it seems to not rattle sometimes. Maybe it just takes a bigger bump to get the rattle going. I hope this can be fixed because it bugs the crap out of me.

I have under 100 miles on my 08 and have noticed this rattle coming from the passenger side seatbelt post. It seems like a pretty common rattle. Any solutions?

The rattles in my new 08 sedan are, I must admit, MUCH less than those from my 06 6MT coupe.

I have a rattle/buzz that's coming from the spring mechanism under the passenger seat. It annoys me, and I've taken the car in several times. Each time, they fix it, and it's great for about a week, and then comes back. It buzzes particularly loudly when I rev the car higher than 4000 RPM, so it's resonating with the engine I guess. Normally I don't hear it because I have the music on. But when I'm on the phone, it does bother me. Still, I do love the G, and don't regret my purchase just because of one rattle even though I am the type that once I hear it, it drives me nuts.

Cheers
