Gas up your G's tonight

hey guys, up here in Ontario Canada gas is supposed to go up 15 cents over night. So if your goin out or for a joy ride gas it up!

SVLRx Sep 11, 2008 11:03 PM

a buddy told me gas prices down here might make a HUGE jump (up to 50 cents) tonight due to the closing of 17 oil refineries due to IKE....

Wannabe6MT Sep 11, 2008 11:05 PM

lol oh well

G35Now! Sep 11, 2008 11:16 PM

At least you can GET gas - all of the local stations are out due to people gassing up for Ike. Fortunately both cars were already full, and I found one for the gas can (guess the generator gets premium, LOL)

i know how u feel, I live in New Orleans and EVERYONE was gassing up to evac for Gustav, ended up running out of gas in New Orleans, and parts of Baton rouge (1 hour away). Then the power was out for at least a week, over a week at some places, so we had to pump gas in Lafayette (2.5 hours away) before we came home, b/c Baton Rouge didn't have power for ~2.5 weeks so their pumps didn't work, and the pumps in New Orleans either weren't open/didn't have power/or didn't get more fuel....

up here in the sticks we don't get those lil puffs of wind that come from the sea,

we get northeasters :)

hope u all fair well down there doesn't look like some thing i would want to be in

As oil hovers around $102, some 30% lower than its high of $147, gasoline is only down 9% here.

Near my home it was $3.92 when I left this morning but still $3.68 near my office.

Oh, and my sister lives in Houston. Her side of town isn't even being evacuated, so the fact that these refineries are closed is BS!

G35Now! Sep 12, 2008 10:00 AM

The refineries are pretty far South of Houston, and a lot closer to the water. They're worried about flooding, not wind; and you don't want the refinery to actually be running, have a problem, and then create a fire / leak.

Here in Tallahassee, Florida, regular just went up after my lunch break from #3.59 to $5.49 a gallon. And gas stations are running out of gas here, its ridiculous! I'm so glad I filled up with 93 yesterday for $3.66.

klossfam Sep 12, 2008 04:14 PM

Hold on...SOMEONE'S GETTING SCREWED! Oh yea, it's us!!!! I forgot...

Oil dropped below $100/barrel around 1:30pm ET today...but I'm sure the boyz at Exxon need to make sure they get the chance to gouge since Ike is going to be such a direct hit on Houston et al...

RPL Sep 12, 2008 04:16 PM

Barrels just fell below $101... what's the deal?

LiquidGx Sep 12, 2008 05:35 PM

Oil has sunk so the refiners can catch up. Now when oil starts to rise, gas will go up proportionally this time around. Expect $5 gas by next Memorial day in the US.

boss81 Sep 12, 2008 06:19 PM

Just because oil prices drop that does not mean that gas prices will drop if the refineries are offline. The oil has to have someplace to be made into gas.

LiquidGx Sep 13, 2008 08:59 AM

Okay, so we lost production to the tune of what 30% of the refiners? They were only operating at 85% capacity anyway. Production should only have been offline yesterday and today. Its BS!

AesonVirus Sep 13, 2008 09:11 AM

Production actually took a hit from the last storm and never got back up to 100% before this storm hit so our gas reserve is low. This is why prices are up an average of $0.05.

The experts (I have to laugh when I say that) say that what some people is doing is called "Panic Buying"
This is the # 1 reason why prices jump. Get gas when you need it. Don't run out and fill your swimming pool with the stuff. The sky is not falling. :D
