Why doesn't the video from my iPod show up?

Hey guys, I'm trying to get the video on my iPod to show up but it talks about enabling the TV out...which doesn't make sense. I have a iPod 80gb classic w/ video...here is the cable i'm using...and yes I know about the parking brake...i remember someone mentioning that only Apple RCA's will work for video...any truth to this? Here is a link of the RCA-to-headphone cables I'm currently using...

Should I be using something that plugs into the base connector for the video to work as shown in the second link? I really don't see how video can come out of headphone jacks...anyways, thanks

That looks like the cable I use, and it works fine. You need to enable the TV out in video > settings (I think). Your choices are iPod or TV, you need to either have TV enabled, or IIRC you can set it so it always asks.

If you don't do this, it defaults to showing video on the screen.

How does the cable in the first link take the video from the ipod and output it? The iPod doesn't output video from the headphone jack.

That second link looks more like it. The 40 pin iPod connector can output everything.

Hey! I had that ploblem before. I also have Ipod Classic model which they are required using compatable one. cost about $50 which i purchase from crutchfield. I have try using many cable either from other that cheaper from EBAY.Trust me it's does't work. Don't waste your money.
You have to get the Cable that's is really for the Classic Model in order to play the video. Here is the link:

Not all of the cable is compatable with Clssic Model.GL:biggthumpup:

The previous gen ipods use the headphone jack to output video. The current gen ipods use the 40-pin to output video. The 80GB classic would need this cable: Composite Output Cable

:dunno:

I have a first-gen iPod that has video capability and once you enable video out it all works regardless of platform.

Wait a sec, what's the current gen? I have an 80GB that I bought in early '07, and it can send video through the headphone jack...? That's 5th gen, right? Is there a new version since then?

ugaexploder Nov 9, 2008 10:56 AM

i think i have the 4th gen where the only options for the iPod classic were 80gb and 160gb...is that the same one you have g35now!?

Cabad85 Nov 9, 2008 11:02 AM

I think that would be the 5.5 Gen model. Here are differences listed for the latest ipod which was released fall '07 i believe:

Quoted from:

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...ic_review.html

Video Output Changes

One last change on the iPod Classic over the previous 5.5G iPod model is that video output has changed. Previous video-enabled iPods offered composite video output from a video iPod Dock or via a cable that plugged into the headphone jack. The new Classic, Nano, and the Touch all offer both composite video and now higher quality component video for use with a HDTV or modern standard definition TV. Component video delivers a higher quality picture.

The new models now lack an option to output video from the headphone jack. Instead, Apple sells both composite cables for use with all video-capable iPods and component cables that only work with the new Classic, Nano, and Touch. Both cables plug into the iPods using a dock connector. They also come with a USB wall power adapter and cost $50.

^^, nice...thanks for clearing that up bro...imma have to get me one of those

If you are using a non-apple cable the video outputs from the red instead of yellow rca jack. (it might be the white but I think it is the red)
