no traction with 20's
 

I am new to this forum and this would be my the first questions I have. On my sedan I have 20x8.5 in front and 20x10 rear 275/35 toyo's. I have been putting performance parts on little by little (high flow cats, stillen stage 3 intake, stillen headers, stillen pulley, full stillen exhaust). My problem is car has no traction, when I leave the vdc on it cuts power way too much and when I take vdc off the rears slide through second. What kind of tire setup should I put on? I am trying not to go to an 18. Would a 275/40 19 work in the rear? Also what brand of tire would have the most traction. I was also thinking of finding a rear end out of a g35 sport with posi would that help with my wheel spin. thanks

I have 19s with 275/35 tires in the back and don't have a problem hooking up. I don't know why 20s should be that different.

You should have more than enough traction with your current wheel/tire setup. Definitely more than stock.
The wider the rim, the more contact patch on the tire, hence better traction...

i would think you'd get more spin w/ smaller wheels, no?

I was thinking smaller wheel bigger tire more flex to the road

I have stock sizes on now (winter) and these tires spin easily. I am running the same size as you in the summer and get great traction. Much more than stock. 275/30 20 Yoko S.Drive. I'm plenty happy with this size. All tread compounds are different.

i would probably say its the tires and/or your driving style... What Toyos are you running T1Rs/Proxies 4? i have T1Rs and they grip well... i would not say great though. And its hard to compare because I am on 19's and 19 vs 20 applications of the same tires may be different.

tire pressure makes a difference as well.

Please clarify.. I am pretty sure that I am not the only to have no clue what you are saying w/ that statement. :dunno:

A lot of times you can heat up a tire that large to get sufficient traction.

I'm putting down 310whp and 242wtq to the wheels and a ew days ago me and friend put some rims on my car to see how they look. I wanted to have some fun. They were 20x9 and 20x10.5 with 275/30/20 and 245/35/20 tires. I was taking 90 degree turns at 30-40mph and they were holding up fine.
And when I wanted to drift i would drift.
It might be from crapy tires, tire pressure, or your car has a problem.

WTF... did Stillen have a fire sale or do you get some sort of family discount?

I heard somewhere the rear end in the g35 sport is different and better than the one in the journey is this true?

The Sport does have a limited slip differential:
