TPMS low battery
 

Anybody have problems with their tpms sensors and batteries going low.
24000 miles and this is the second sensor with a low battery. The light will flash for 1 minute and then go solid.
The dealer is 3hrs away, so I don't want to take it in just for this. Is there a way to change the battery?

The TPMS has batteries? Are you sure you aren't talking about your key fob battery? Is there a triangle with an exclamation mark, as well as a battery going low with a key lit up on your dash? If that's the case, you just need to change the battery in your key fob.

That sounds more like a tire with low pressure.

Straight off my Nissan workorder

Adjusted all tire psi and relearned sensor location. Found code in system for left rear sensor battery failure. Cleared light but will likely come back on. Recommend replacing sensor. Part is $140.80 and labor to install $49.50.

This is the second time this has happend in the last 2k miles. Inf replaced the first one under warranty and will replace this one as well, however a 3 hr drive to the dealer isn't something I want to do just to get my light turned off.

I was hoping to find a way to replace the batteries in the sensor so I didn't have to worry about a $200 job once the warranty is up. Another option is to pull the cluster apart and take that 1 light out of the warning symbol.

$200 including install! Robbery! I would ignore the light out of warranty if it gets to that.

The sensor battery itself, is not replaceable.
Sensor replacement is the only way.

I am assuming they are quoting you for the sensor to be replaced. The bettery inside of most all (if not all) TPMS sensors are not user servicable as they are sealed in the unit. Most should get around 7-10 years of service, but it depends on how much you drive. The unit goes in to a power saving mode and is only active when the wheels are spinning, so the more you drive, the more wear on the battery.

The car is an 08 and will be 2 years old next month, it has 24k miles on it.
The reason I ask is I find it odd that my car has gone through 2 sensors now. And made obvious by the responses so far, nobody else has had any problems.

If I could find a way to shut the idiot light off I'd do it and never worry about them again.

elctric tape over the light and you good to go. Or paint it with sharpie. LOL

TPS sensor replacement
 

Stay away from the dealer for TPS sensors! Expensive! Buy it on Amazon for less then $30 each and free shiping. Then go to favorite tire store and have them mount them. A good time would be during tire replacement so they might do it for free. Otherwise a fee of $15 per tire is reasonable. This model has good reviews:VDO SE10001HP:biggthumpup:

2-pack of those VDO sensors are available on Amazon for $50-51. If you're a Sam's Club member, at least at the location I called, they charge $5/wheel to install. No, that's not a typo - five dollars. If you need them to reset/relearn, they charge $19. I'm not sure if any of the low-cost ODBII scanners can reset TPMS but there's also a DIY/hack method (you set each tire to a specific pressure, short out an easily-accessible connector under the dash, next to the ODBII port, drive for a bit, etc - guides are out there, just don't have one handy right now).
