Does everybody use VDC on their X's?
 

Well, I really never tried to switch the VDC off and drive around (I have my g35x for a year), because I thought it would be safer not to disable the "stability control".

But yesterday I turned it off, gave it some spirited driving around the town and it seems like there's no problem even if I push it hard while cornering, the car feels even more predictable!

So, is it a good idea to switch it off every time I start the car (at summer of course)?

Yeah the X is different. You don't feel much when you turn it off since the AWD is pretty well takes it over. Even on wet road pretty good. Little more wheel spin but that's about it.

Only differences when you go to a parking lot full of snow. Makes it fun. Still predictable it goes where you steer.

Be carefull outthere.

Well I've never owned an X but coming from an Audi S3 quattro I never used to have my VDC on back in the Audi, but then again it was quattro.

Extremely predictable when it slides in the rain and even in the dry.

You could easily make the car do a 4wd drift in the rain around a roundabout with no problems because it feels far more predictable, you just need to keep the power on so it doesn't gain traction lol

Bottom line, I dunno how the X 4wd system works, and if its as good as the quattro. If it is then I don't see why you'd have a problem with VDC switched off. The only thing I can think of is if the car needs sometime to engage the 4wd system.

Is the X constant 4wd? or is it only when it slips?
and does anyone know what the power ratio on the X is? i.e. how the power is split between front and rear wheels?

It is a smart AWD. The power distribution is different each time. It can be 100% RWD till slips. Than it can change up to 50/50. Also if you turn the snow mode on it will be 50/50 till 12mph(19kmh). There is a processor monitoring all the sensors. It reacts hundredths of a second. Pretty good.

Some of the review they had between the AWD cars in this segment and the G beet them with or without VDC on the snowy condition. Include in the list 335XI. In fact there wasn't much of a difference between the VDC engaged or not. That shows how well the AWD system works.

Love the X, I've never thought traction/control that good was even possible before buying this car.

I tried VDC off and also could not tell the difference at all. No more spinning in corner.
But it could be fun if we could trick the ECU/sensors in some way to make the G35X 100% RWD all the time and then put it back AWD when we want, I alway
s dreamed of a car like that, you change your driveline like you want!

My experience when turning off the VDC and cornering hard was the rear wheels skipped but I didnt lose control cuz the front wheels kept traction. The only time the rears went loose on me was when I purposely drifted on the snow with VDC on or off.

I've turned off VDC many times when i do sprited driving. In warm/hot weather you cant lose control unless you go 100mph into a 90 degree turn. But turning off VDC in the snow is the most fun thing ive ever done. this winter we got so much snow in NY that i can drift around my neighborhood and not crash into anything because the vdc would kick in right when i needed it.

In the snow keep it on unless you're messing around. It's an alright system. I kept it on a crashed (going in a straight line at 30mph, spun out from ice lol ). When i turned it off it was fine lol.

We got a nasty ice storm a few days before my test drive. The sales guy brought me to a parking lot that was covered in several inches of solid ice. He had me carefully pull in and then point the car at the road. He then asked me to punch it.
The car crawled slowly across the large lot and once the tires were all on solid ground, the car took off like a jet. That test drive was 45 minutes of pure fun. I have never had a test drive like that before.... and he did a good job of showing me the car's capabilities and sold me the car.
The VDC system is great. I leave it on 99.9% of the time but I do notice a bit more aggression when I turn it off. I can easily throw the back end out when I want to but I don't play like that very often. I can't afford the tires. :)

i drive a g35x and my vdc is always off heh. honestly i dont notice anything different except when in snow. thats about it =(

there was one time when i had it off and slipped in rain? other then that.. dunno.

Pull the AWD fuse - 100% RWD all the time. Put it back in to return to AWD mode.

If so, I will certainly try it.
Is it located in the engine compartment?

I turned off VDC this morning. As i was making a relatively sharp turn in light rain @ about 20mph. The rear end came loose like a mofo - I nearly drifted into the nearby lane!! (thank god nobody was there!!) I re-lived driving in a foot of snow in my maxima.

Keep VDC on on slippery roads (rain OR snow)
