Car won't Start Electrical problem
 

I've got a weird issue with my '08 journey, Drove it work, when I was leaving

-- The car won't start, intelligent key does not work

-- When I get in the only thing electrical that works are the clock, power seats and brake light.

-- Checked the battery it was fine, tried a jump no luck.

I was only able to check the fuses by the battery compartment they were okay, I wasn't able to get the other ones, I had to get it towed to the dealer ship and now waiting for a call back. Anybody had similar problems.

Try jump starting the car again, if you search on these forums you will see that a few had this same problem and were unable to get the car to start as the battery was totally toast, however after several tries they were able to jump start the car.

if the dealership tries charging you for anything, i suggest you take out the battery and get it checked out/swapped first.

Yeah, sounds like the battery is dead. But what exactly do you mean "checked the battery it was fine". You measured the voltage?

Replace the battery to be absolutely sure.... if its not the battery, its the alternator. If the alternator is bad, no matter what battery u have it will not charge the car... making ur new battery die as well.

Turned out IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module) bad
 

--Yah the battery voltage, and amps were fine.

--I had to get it towed to dealer, They told me the IPDM module is bad, and quoted me $880 for parts and labor.

I don't know much about where the module is located, and since the car is inoperable, I am forced to get it changed by them.

My warranty ran out just a few months ago oh well, not much I can do, except suck it up

I was reading that in older nissan's and infiniti's it craps out in cold weather, in atlanta we had a real cold week, but come on we were only in the teens, it's not like it's cold all the time.

I would try to get them to cover it... you might get lucky...

irfman12 I think i was having the same issue as you (and still am for that matter). How did they determine it was the IPDM module that was bad? Check engine code?

Hey Fresh, I don't know, I wasn't present at the dealership physically, I had to run errands all day. My car did not have any lights what's so ever on the instrument panel, so I dont' know if there was a code. Just my seats, brake lights and clock worked.

I've been reading all night about potential solutions for my problem and it seems to me that several people said that their IPDM module had watter drip down onto/into it from the battery.

I was ripping a Drake CD onto the HDD Thursday night while in park obviously and out of nowhere my tach went down to zero, abs, vdc, slip, and several other lights came on. I then put the car into reverse and it shifted extremely hard. Drove it around the parking lot for a few minutes and noticed that it was not shifting smoothly at all towards higher RPMs. I shut it off for the night hoping that it would be back to normal in the morning, but it did not start at all.

Tonight I had AAA stop by and use their super charging battery charger, but that too didn't help. I think part of it is because the Security Indicator Light came on and I've heard that sometimes prevents the car from starting. So it got towed to my Infiniti dealer tonight so they can check it out on Monday.

It's very possible it shorted out on me, as well as my car had ice on it, I will ask the dealer when I pick up my car where exactly it's located and what we can do to keep it better insulated, although the battery compartment has a cover and seems to be a dry area. Good luck to you as well, I couldn't get my car out of shift release either, the wrecker had to tow with the wheel lifts.
