Any other X's with ITB10-002 p- WHINE NOISE / VIBRATION FROM TRANSFER CASE issue?
 

I've started to notice this in the last month or so. Might go into dealer next week about it.

APPLIED VEHICLES:
2004 – 2006 G35 Sedan (V35) equipped with AWD
2007 – 2008 G35 Sedan (V36) equipped with AWD
2003 – 2008 FX35/45 (S50) equipped with AWD
2006 – 2010 M35/45 (Y50) equipped with AWD

IF YOU CONFIRM:

A whine noise and/or vibration from the transfer case assembly when:

• Making right or left turns at slow speeds,

and/or

• Stopped, with steering wheel turned to almost full extent in either direction, and then applying slight
acceleration.

ACTION

Replace the electric controlled coupling in the transfer assembly.

NOTE: Do not replace the entire transfer assembly for this incident, should it occur.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the transfer assembly from the vehicle and place it in a clean working area.

•

Refer to Section DLN in the Service Manual for removal information.

2. Disassemble the transfer assembly and replace the electric controlled coupling.

•

Refer to Section DLN in the Service Manual for replacement (disassembly and reassembly)
information.

The following are helpful tips for coupling replacement:

The new electric coupler does not have the
temperature sensor shown in Figure 1.

The temperature sensor is not needed.

Reassemble the transfer case without the
sensor.

NOTE: The wire colors for the new coupler
connector may be different than the old one.

The following do not need to be disassembled / replaced as part of the coupler replacement.

•

Front case (main shaft bearing, snap rings, main shaft oil seal, front oil seal, spacer)
AWD solenoid harness connector O-ring


• Rear case (rear oil seal, snap ring, rear bearing, baffle plate)

• Breather tube

NOTE: Make sure to use Anaerobic Liquid Gasket to reseal (reassemble) the case.

• Permatex® 51813 Anaerobic Gasket Maker or equivalent (Local Source).

When i am at my dunkin donuts drivethru here in town..i have the wheel turned all the way to the left..then when i give it slight gas there is a vibration..never really thought about it until i read it

What is the part number for the coupling?

Aside from noise, are there any detrimental side effects of leaving this unresolved?

Often with mechanical things, wear begets more wear. As the fitment for a part 'loosens' to the point it makes noise, then it has more play to move about and thus create more wear and more noise. The process can be just a downward spiral of increased decay. Of course, this does not hold for all things, but perhaps this part is one where it does.

FYI I ran into this too. It felt like there was a shutter (power loss) when turning at slow speeds. I took it to the dealer and they referred me to that TSB, I did some more searching and found this one- https://www.carmd.com/Tsb/Download/95264/1tv7 and it's symptoms matched my car more closely (even though that's for a different car model). The dealer wanted $3k to replace the part in the TSB. I ended up buying a used transfer case (off of a wreck) for 200 and ~300 for labor to swap the entire transfer case. That seems to have resolved the issue.

So in short, not getting it fixed will cause the car to shudder during low speed turning and I also noticed mashing on the accelerator in sport would seem to give un-even power to the wheels when shifting. Just my 2 cents.

I have been noticing it a little, although it hasn't been pronounced. Thought it had to do with ECU-related 1k rpm hesitation, but it could be this issue (will finally reset my ECU). Will keep an eye out.
